Advantages: Filling
Disadvantages: Higher in calories than most bars
Twix made by Mars is one of the most popular chocolate bars around and often features in top ten lists. It is very easy to find being available in the supermarkets and the corner shops and the petrol station and so on. You can either buy these singularly which costs roughly 45p or you can get a multipack of 9 single bars which costs about £1.45 normally but I found at Poundland for, yes you guessed it, £1 with three extra bars. Bargain.
When I think of Twix I always think of that gold reflective wrapper but they changed the packaging about two years ago and now it is matt gold colour with Twix written in red letters. If you buy a standard bar from the shop you will find you get two fingers so great if you want to leave the other half till later or share it. (Yeah, not likely!) Each individual finger from the multipack I have contains 123 calories so just double that for a standard bar.
Each stick is a biscuit base topped with caramel and this is all surrounded in milk chocolate. The top of the bar is all wavy. I wonder if this is because they don't smooth down the caramel so that the chocolate sits on top unevenly giving it a more distinctive look. The proportion of caramel to biscuit is very good - about 50 / 50 - which is one of the reasons I find this bar appealing. The caramel is very stringy though so if you tend to pull bits of your chcolate bar off rather than just biting into them like I do, be prepared to play the sphagetti round a fork game with the caramel. The chocolate is nice and smooth but doesn't quite live up to Cadbury's or Galaxy's standards but it doesn't make a huge difference to me.
I like eating these by sucking off the chocolate and then eating the rest which sounds a bit gross actually. One of the other good things about this bar is that it is quite filling so a good one to pick if it's your substitute lunch. Yum
Summary: A popular choice
