Advantages: A "different" crisp flavour, but one that's actually nice!
Disadvantages: 60p a bag?
With a price mark of around 60p per bag, Tyrrells are not the cheapest crisps (potato chips), but, in my opinion, they are certainly the nicest and are definitely worth the price tag. Also, the bags are usually two-thirds full and so you get a lot of crisps (unlike some of the other brands of crisps).
Tyrrells "potato chips" are premium crisps (hence the price tag) and are thick cut, unlike brands such as Walkers and Golden Wonder which seem to get thinner each time I have a bag! The potatoes which make these crisps are grown on the Tyrrells Court Farm in Herefordshire, so Tyrrells are in total control over the crisps, from 'seed to chip'.
The Pork & Apple flavoured crisps are a new flavour for Tyrrells, so when I saw them in the local supermarket I just had to grab a bag or three. The crisp bag is a greeny-gold and cream colour with a black & white photo of a woman in a car with a pig! It also has the tag line of "Cracklingly Good Pork with Bramley Apple Sauce". This flavour is part of Tyrrells "Great Britain" promotion, along with other classic British flavours such as Welsh Rarebit and Beef Wellington.
Opening the bag of crisps, I was greeted with what I would describe as a roast pork dinner smell, so far so good! Putting a couple of Pork & Apple flavoured Tyrrells crisps in my mouth, I discovered that they pretty much taste like a roast pork dinner too! I think there's more pork than apple, in fact I think there's only a slight hint of apple, but that's pretty much how it should be. There's no doubt about it... these crisps taste great!
Tyrrells Pork & Apple Potato Chips contain no artificial or GM products, and are gluten free and trans fat free. As I said before, they cost around the 60p mark for a 40g (approx.) bag. On the front of each bag, the potato variety is noted (my bag of crisps was made from Lady Rosetta potatoes) along with the best before date. The bags currently advertise a "What puts the 'Great' in Great Britain for you?" monthly competition, which goes well with their new range of flavours.
Would I recommend these crisps? Definitely! Tyrrells are my favourite premium brand crisps and I'll certainly be buying more of this flavour (I've already gone through a couple of bags of them in the past 3 evenings).
Summary: Yummy Premium Crisps!
