Deciding against a Sunday roast today preferring to wait until next Fridays Christmas Dinner we wanted something hot but different to eat today. As fresh chicken breast have been on offer in Morrisons recently at half price and we had stocked up on some we decided that as we had this Sweet and Sour sauce in our cupboard we would have this today for a change. Coming in the glass jar with an orange screw lid as illustrated in the picture above the sauce in the jar has an orange colour and you can see chunks of various additions included. This really is cooking at its simplest and allowing the chicken to cook by itself for a few minutes it's just a case of ... Read the complete review

After doing my shopping at Asda online I decided to purchase uncle Bens sweet and sour sauce as I knew I was having roast chicken for tea last night and therefor would have some leftover and so I could have sweet and sour chicken with rice for tea tonight. Uncle Bens sweet and sour sauce is from their oriental range of sauces and is a great product that can be kept in your cupboard for when you need it as the use by date is normally around a year from purchase. I bought two of these from Asda for £3, they are normally £1.57 per 500g jar so not a huge saving, but it all helps. You can purchase smaller jars if you prefer, but I find the larger ones ... Uncle Ben's Sweet and Sour sauce is a product in their Oriental range. Uncle Ben's is actually owned by Mars Inc. They have been making rice since 1943 and according to an article I read was the top selling rice in the United States from 1950 until the 1990's! They also produce a range of related food products as well. I like the range of sauces they do and the one I am reviewing is their Sweet and Sour sauce. I am probably quite well placed to review it as my husband and I seem to have this for dinner about once a week. Sweet and Sour sauce originated in China and is the reason why this product can be found in Uncle Ben's oriental range. It is ... Read the complete review

As I'm having this for tea i thought I might as well review it whilst it's cooking! This jar of Uncle Bens sweet and sour sauce is 750g which is the largest size they sell, I like to buy this size, use half the sauce to serve two of us and then freeze the other half in a tupperware box to use another time as it works out cheaper than buying smaller jars. The sauce is originally meant to be served with chicken but i use quorn, you can also just use a selection of vegetables if you prefer. I like this sauce as it's not too spicy even the other half who doesn't like 'foreign food' will eat this. It contains no artificail colours, flavours or ... Read the complete review

****Original sweet and sour**** Some people think that the original sweet and sour came from the Chinese province of Hunan but the sauce in this area is a weak vinegar and sugar mixture not resembling what most people would call sweet and sour. In China traditionally the sauces are made from mixing sugar or honey with a sour liquid such as rice vinegar, soy sauce and spices such as ginger and cloves. Western sweet and sour sauce often includes the addition of fruits such as pineapple and vegetables such as sweet pepper and green onions. A mixture of vinegar and dry sherry is often used in sweet and sour dishes. ****How to use ... Read the complete review
