Advantages: yummy tasty goodness

Disadvantages: sadly the bread and butter it goes with is baaaad for you!

Aren't toasters amazing articles. you plug them in. you put in 2 slices of bread, chances are when we do so we are either tired and just woken up, tired and just going to bed, tired and hung over or just being plain blimmin lazy!! so we push the button down and in less than 2 minutes we have a warm comforting snack in the shape of toast! amazing!

And now the dilemma... what to spread on it to complete this lovely lazy meal?? The marmite "love it or hate it" effect is certainly well documented both here on dooyoo and on the tv.

But THEN someone in the southern hemisphere woke up. and realised that for those of us finding ourselves firmly in the "hate it" camp we needn't miss out.

Created in 1922 due to a shortage of british marmite post war and a dirge of used yeast from local breweries, the inventor was given the task of forming a substitute that used up the spare yeast extract and tasted as near to marmite as he could make it. Hence vegemite was born and what a find it was!!!

The taste i find is much much milder than that of marmite but still with that distinctive marmitey taste. once i have buttered and eaten one slice the rest of the loaf watch out as i loose myself in a fog of vegemitey buttery toasty heaven!! Ignoring the amazingly detrimental fattening effects of toasty white bread I can content myself in the knowledge that vegemite is actually rather good for me.
An excellent source of B vitamins and glutamic acid, it is also virtually fat free (which i'm sure allows me that extra scrape of butter). It is made purely with yeast, celery, salt and onion so amazingly light on the calorie counter too! always a good thing.

So as i pluck my steaming toasty brown loveliness from its fiery oven, I thoroughly relish the taste that is to come. With proper butter and a good scrape of this lovely stuff I realise that i have found the perfect toastal adornment.

Marmite, after the taste of this, sets my teeth on edge. So if anyone is currently on the fringes of the "hate it" camp then give vegemite a try. you may well be very pleasantly surprised.
(but make sure you clean your teeth, it smells how it tastes!!!! :O )

Summary: dont dismiss it give it a go
