Advantages: Fantastic... if you like cheese, you must try this one
Disadvantages: None for me
Waitrose Extra Mature Cheddar & Onion Quiche
(400g)
Once I tried Waitrose Sweetfire Pepper Feta & Olive Quiche and it was fantastic, I bought it a second time when I invited my friends and I decided to buy it a third time but unfortunately I could not find it. I still thought I would try a different flavor, and because quiches were on offer On Ocado.com, I bought two. Waitrose Extra Mature Cheddar & Onion Quiche was one of them. Normally it is for £2.19, but I bought two for £4.00. I know this offer is not very tempting, but I cannot resist buying food from Waitrose. Quiches in Asda, Tesco, and Sainsbury's are mostly on offer: buy two for £3.00 so you can save money when you buy them, but I believe the quiche I'm reviewing is much more delicious.
As all other kinds of Quiche, this one comes in a foil try inside a cardboard box. To prepare it, I removed all the packaging including the foil for around 40 minutes because I cooked it from frozen. This quiche can be stored in the freezer up to one month. If you put it in the refrigerator instead, heating will take around 25 minutes only. As you heat this quiche in the oven, you start to smell the wonderful scent that promises of a very good meal, and you will not be disappointed.
The pastry is delicious, but I have to admit that it is not different from the pastry in any other kind of quiche like the ones you buy in Asda or Tesco. The secret is in the extra mature cheddar and onion filling. The best thing about this quiche has to be the very recognizable pieces of different kinds of cheese: extra mature cheddar cheese 9%, red Leicester cheese 4%, and medium mature cheddar cheese 4%. The amount and variety add so much not only to the flavour but also to the texture of the quiche which does not just look like pastry filled with a kind of custard. It actually reminds me of Waitrose Sweetfire Pepper Feta & Olive Quiche in which you find recognizable pieces of delicious feta cheese.
The chives and spices (black pepper, white pepper, and nutmeg) add a great flavour as well. I think this quiche is enough for two persons if some side dishes are added. You get 524 calories per ½ quiche which does not seem to be a problem. The only thing you must consider is that you get 14.6g of saturated fat per ½ quiche, which is too much considering that women should consume no more than 20g of saturates, and men no more than 30g.
Summary: Excellent meal.
