Advantages: good taste

Disadvantages: pricey

I was feeling rich and lazy this weekend and did my shopping at Waitrose which is just around the corner; usually I would walk into town to go to Tesco's but it was raining and I didn't need much to buy anyway.
The tortilla chips were not really on my list but as with most comfy food they somehow found there way in my shopping basket.

The chips come in a nice blue package and 3 different flavours are available; I tried the lightly salted and the spicy chilli. All important Nutrition info are on the back of the packing.

Tortilla chips are not made from potato as normal crisps but are made from maize - in general known as corn. A feeling of Mexico in your kitchen!
The maize tortillas are baked and flavoured with palmolein oil and salt and are suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.

The quite big yellow triangles look already alluringly crunchy in their bag. They are advertised as 'lightly salted' but I could do with a bit more salt; but that could just be me as I prefer more strongly flavoured snacks.
Still, they are very crunchy and don't get soggy if you eat them with salsa sauce. The best thing is that they don't feel and taste greasy and don't leave you with a fatty aftertaste.

I love salted tortillas with salsa sauces or as a base for a Mexican dish; the lack of flavour makes them perfect to use in a chilli salad or as the base of a nacho bake.

With 482kcal per 100 gram they contain surprisingly few calories for crisps, definitely less than normal potato crisps. They do however contain quite a lot of fat and carbohydrates.
All per 100g:

Fibre - 8g

I'm not a big fan of Waitrose in general as they are a bit pricey for a poor soon-to-be student but the food is of extraordinary quality. Everything I bought from Waitrose looked good, tasted good and was *almost* worth the price. The same goes here for the lightly salted tortilla chips; a 200g pack for 90 pence is not bad but there are many low-price options. Tesco and ASDA offer very cheap tortilla chips for almost half the price.

The Waitrose chips taste good and are definitely a quality product but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them again, not with all the cheap Value or Smartprice options that are available.
Still, the taste really good and if you are a regular at Waitrose I can highly recommend them to you!
