I really love crisps. I think the love affair went back to when I was younger and all I could buy was ready salted, with this little blue bag. I'm sure some of us slightly older ones will. Whilst on holiday a new flavour came out - Prawn Cocktail. This really made my holiday and I've loved crisps ever since. So much so that about 10 years ago I banned myself from eating any crisp at all. I knew if I did my addiction would come back.............and I'd eat pack after pack. This lasted for 3 years. Just imagine going to a party of an evening - no crisps. Sitting and watching the kids go through packets of crisps - it was torture. This stopped in about 2002. I needed my fix. And Walkers and our friend Mr Gary Lineker would give me what I needed.

Moving on a few years, well to 2009 to be precise, I was reading an article in a newspaper and Walkers were going to try some new flavours. One of them was Builders Breakfast (no doubt I'll review the other flavours in time). I couldn't wait to try them. I started off looking in some supermarkets for them but could only see the 46g bag. This is no mean size. Then I looked at the price 65p. Yes a whopping 65 pennies. I couldn't believe the price. I mean we are meant to be in a recession aren't we? And my favourite crisp maker brings out new crisps at what I believe is an unreasonable price - okay I accept they are a large bag. I looked around to find a smaller bag. None to be seen. I even asked at Customer Services and they said they only come in one size. Well Mr Lineker if you want me to put on even more pounds - I mean stones they you are going about it the right way. On that occasion I left the shop without a purchase.

This week I popped into Home Bargains. I had to buy some crisps for packed lunches so headed over to the crisp corner. There in the corner were some of the new flavours - when I say some, there were only 2 flavours available - Builders Breakfast and Chiili and Chocolate. The latter accounted for about 90% of what bags were left. Do nobody like this flavour? I then scrummage d through the bags and retrieved 8 Builder Breakfast's at only 15p each. Now that is my kinda price. After buying some other bits I headed home to give a packet a try.

I sat down in front of the tv and started to eat them. The first thing I noticed was a funny face of a clown on the front of the pack. This consisted of a sausage as a mouth, 2 rashes of bacon as ears, 1 tomato as a nose and 2 fried eggs as eyes. Tomato Ketchup as hair. Underneath it said that the picture represents Emma from Belper's inspiration for her Builders Breakfast flavour. So I guess it is her who deserves the praise, if in fact these crisps do win the competition for a new flavour. Oh yes I forgot to mention there is a competition were we can all vote for our favourite new flavour.

On opening the packet it smelt like bacon flavour crisps. In fact I could hardly taste any other flavour. The crisps looked like any other walkers crisp, they weren't any special shape or anything. What I did note however is just how greasy the crisps felt. Checking the nutritional value the packet contained a huge 15.2g of fat (22% of an adults recommended allowance) another 1.2g Saturates (6% RDA) Salt 0.57g (10% RDA) Sugar 0.7g (1%) and wait for it 240 Calories.

I can't say that the above surprised me too much, however when you actually study the amounts, you realise just how much junk you are shoveling in your mouth. What I also found surprising that you can't find smaller packs (please let us know if that is wrong Walkers). The sheer fat content this would give a child if it was part of a packed lunch would be huge and certainly no good for their health. No wonder the country is putting on weight. I mean if I gave the kids this for their packed lunch - they'd end up the same size as er...........me.

For those who are interested in the competition you can watch exclusive 'behind the scenes' videos on yahoo - just type in at yahoo - 'do us a flavour'.

Well I think I might go back to those old days of not eating crisps. It really has got me thinking what it is I'm forcing upon my 'masculine' body each day.I'm not saying that other crisps are good for you, they certainly aren't but these just seem to confirm to me that crisps in general are not good for you. I might try the other flavours before I start my abstinence of the crisps. I certainly won't be giving them to the children as part of their packed lunch, although I will let them try them at home.

Well this is my first 1000 word review!!!!!Hope you Enjoy. Maybe one day I'll get my first CROWN. :-)

Great review! I would have nominated you if you talked more about the flavor of the crisp.
