Advantages: Tastes pretty nice, not expensive
Disadvantages: Not around for long, unhealthy
I have been aware of the Walkers 'Pick us a winner' campaign for a while now, but hadn't actually gotten around to trying one of these six new flavours until this morning. Not being much of a crisp person, none of them had ever particularly appealed to me, but this morning I found myself with an unusual craving for crisps and so picked up this packet. I chose the Builder's Breakfast flavour because, although I think I would have enjoyed the Fish and Chips flavour more, I was interested to see if all of the four flavours of a cooked breakfast would actually come out in the taste of these crisps.
Builder's Breakfast claims to have the flavours of 'bacon, buttered toast, eggs and tomato sauce', and before eating them I doubted that it would be possible for all these flavours to come through together. After all, if you put a bit of real bacon, toast, eggs and ketchup into your mouth, it would be difficult for you to taste all of the separate components, so I didn't see how a crisp version could do better than the real thing.
Upon trying my first crisp, the first flavour that I noticed was similar to Walkers Beef flavoured crisps, which I assumed was meant to be the bacon part of the breakfast. After eating another few, I decided that this flavour was a much nicer version of the Beef flavour, and was actually quite impressed. A few crisps on, however, I started to notice a buttery scrambled egg flavour, which was very nice as real scrambled eggs are one of my favourite foods, and this flavour came through quite well. On eating the rest of the packet I began to notice more of a tomato ketchup flavoured crisps edge to the taste, and wondered why I hadn't noticed this in the first place, until it occurred to me that perhaps, instead of all the crisps having the same flavourings on, maybe some are 'bacon', some are 'toast' etc. I don't know if this is true or not, but it is the explanation which would most fit why the crisps had the flavours that they did for me. All in all, I really enjoyed the flavour of these crisps, and will be likely to try them again in the future.
Being crisps, however, which are essentially fried slices of potato, I will not be eating these very often due to them being very unhealthy. Each 46g pack contains 240 calories and 15.2g of fat, so they're not ideal for anybody watching their weight (or anybody at all really), but for a treat every once in a while, they're not too bad.
In conclusion, Builder's Breakfast crisps from Walkers are very nice, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to try a more interesting tasting crisp. They aren't guaranteed to be around for much longer, however, so if you try them and love them, remember to vote for them by sending a free text saying BREAKFAST to 51199, as if they don't win, they won't be available anymore. Since the competition ends on the 1st of May, I will probably try at least another couple of the flavours to see if there is one that I would like to save, but for now I am very happy with this flavour.
Summary: It's possible that I'd vote for these
