Advantages: A bit spicy

Disadvantages: Aftertaste

Furry little animals.

So, I vowed never to eat a packet of Cajun squirrel crisps but when they were the only flavour left in the supermarket and after reading on the back of the packet that "no actual squirrels were harmed in the making," then I relented and decided to bite the bullet (or squirrel as the case may be)!

Just as a little bit of background on the subject that I have added to my other reviews too, as you all know, Walkers Crisps are polling the Great British people to try and find the next flavour of crisps. A few months back they asked for people to submit flavour combinations to them in hopes of it becoming the next Walkers flavour. They have now shortlisted six flavours which they have produced but only one will survive and it's up to us to decide which one it is.

The six flavours that they have brought out for a limited time are:

Fish and Chips
Builder's Breakfast
Cajun Squirrel
Chilli and Chocolate
Crispy Duck and Hoisin
Onion Bhaji

Once you have tried the flavours and have a favourite you can then vote to make sure they keep the one you like best. There are various ways to vote. You can either go on line, text your vote, Facebook your vote or e-mail your vote. Apparently, the person who came up with the flavour that wins will get £50,000 and 1% of the future sales of their flavour, not bad! The runners up will each get £10,000 too!

I have to admit that this flavour did not appeal to me at all! I do like spicy Cajun food and this is marketed as an exotic mild Cajun flavour but it really was the squirrel part that was putting me off! However, this may be clever marketing and may actually make people more inclined to try it because it is a talking point and something completely different. This flavour was submitted by Martyn from Hednesford and it says on the packet that the idea came from the fact that he is constantly harassed by cheeky squirrels and got a picture of one as his inspiration. Is his flavour just a bit of fun or revenge? An interesting way of looking at it in my opinion!

I found the crisps spicy but not too spicy which I think was a bit of a shame as I think Walkers could have really pushed the boat out here and gone for a very different type crisps that would literally knock your socks off. After the initial spicy taste there was a slight aftertaste, I'm actually having a hard time deciding what I think the aftertaste tastes like exactly but it's an almost meat based after taste I think. I think I can't get away from the fact that the aftertaste may be that of squirrel, even though I know it's not I've still got that name in my head and can't get away from it. I probably would not have this flavour again as there was something I didn't like about them even though I couldn't put my finger on it.

The Walkers quality was just the same as always, very good, lovely crunchy crisps with a nice potatoey flavour. I would definitely say that this flavour is something new and different and would be a good addition to the Walkers range.

The bag has a green trim to it. On the front of the bag there is a picture of a squirrel standing behind a fence. I can't work out though whether it's meant to be a cage, as in cajun? On their website, Walkers talk about the cajun squirrel flavour like this, "Cajun squirrel you'd be nuts to. We believe in the right for a man to bare nuts, we believe in the freedom not to be chased by dogs. Vote for Cajun squirrel flavour and place a big bushy tail in the face of convention."

The bag I bought was 46g. In it there were 240 calories and 15g of fat!!!! This was quite a lot in my opinion.
