Advantages: Delicious, well flavoured, non-greasy
Disadvantages: Only available in multi-packs
I absolutely adore these new crisps from Walkers, I found them in a multi-pack containing three new flavours to advertise their Gary's Great British Trips promotion where you can collect codes from the crisp packets and save for days out or competition entries.
The Beef & Horseradish ones are delicious, absolutely wonderful in my opinion and are quite possibly becoming my favourite crisps even though I've only eaten two bags of them up until now!
The crisps themselves are quite small compared to other flavours of Walkers crisps at the moment (don't you find their Salt & Vinegar crisps seem to be getting bigger by the week?) and are not greasy in the slightest. They have a lovely crunch to them which strangely seems to bring the meaty flavour out a bit more when you bite into them, the consistency of these crisps is excellent overall and they actually go really well on a sandwich too despite the fact that meaty flavours don't tend to make such good butties!
The flavour is excellent, they do taste of beef but not the salty and rather synthetic beef I have come to expect from Walkers crisps. This is a much more subdued flavour and actually does taste very, very much like proper meat and I personally think it's really authentic tasting indeed.
There is a hint of Horseradish which warms the crisp up nicely and manages to compliment the beef flavour as well as if it were real beef and horseradish sauce I was eating. There is very little heat coming from the horseradish and personally I'd like it a little hotter, however this is a purely personal viewpoint as I love hot Horseradish yet everyone else I've given these crisps to has said the flavour is just right.
I think these are absolutely delicious crisps and cannot understand why they are a limited edition when worse flavours are released on a seemingly weekly basis by Walkers just lately. No doubt when summer has ended they will get rid of these ones yet those appalling Builders Breakfast ones will remain in the shops for months and years to come.
If you fancy trying them I think they are only available in multi-packs at the moment, a pack of six containing two of these, two bags of mango chutney (also delicious) and two sour cream and chive. I do hope to see them as individual packets at some point though as I hate having to buy six bags of crisps when really I just want one!
Summary: A delicious new flavour from Walkers crisps.

- 23/06/09 The pig in me would consume ALL the packets of crisps one after the other in quick succession, that is why I don't buy multipacks, so roll on the day Walkers produce Beef crisps in single packets. |
