Advantages: Very tasty
Disadvantages: Unhealthy
As I've mentioned in other reviews, over the years I have been 'addicted' to crisps. So much so from time to time I have actually banned myself from eating them. Two years was the longest I went without a packet. Sadly like all addictions, they often come back to haunt you. This has happened to me over the last couple of years.Temptation gave in and I was hooked again.
I was in Home and Bargain yesterday and picked up 2 packets of Steak and Onion. I often find that Home and Bargain have the less popular crisps, with a small sell by date. I wonder if it is because the manufacturers have too many left of a certain flavour and have an agreement with Home and Bargain to let them go cheap. I may be well off the mark here, but how else can Home and Bargain afford to sell these large packets (not the normal size) for a mere 15p.
Back to the crisps. The GRAB BAG weigh in at a huge 50g. I have always thought it was very irresponsible of manufacturers to encourage eating larger packets of crisps and chocolate and my view still holds here. The packet is brown in colour and is emblazened with the Walkers logo across the front. It also advertsises the fact that you can win VIP trips and the offer ends 31.12.09 Each pack has a unique code, a bit like the coca cola offer. You text the code to get the points with a chance of winning. Too much hassle in my opinion.
Once the packet was opened I could smell the meat flavour very strongly but not as much the onion. The crisp itself also gave a very meaty taste. As usual with Walkers crisps they were extremely fresh and crispy.
The calories for my packet was 262kcal and the protein 3.1g.
The fat content was 16.5g of which saturates were 1.3g, mono-unsaturates 13.5g and polyunsaturates 1.1g
Fibre 2.1lg
Sodium 0.28g equivqlent to Salt 0.70g
There is NO MSG
NO Preservatives
NO artificial colours
It is also suitable for vegetariansand coeliacs
Flavouring includes
Potatoes, Sunflower Oil (33%) Steak and Onion Seasoning
The seasoning contains
Flavouring, Dried Onion, Dried Parsley, Salt, Glucose, Sugar, Barley Malt Extract, Paprika Extract, Hydrolysed Soy Protein
I'll give the crisps 5/5 for taste and freshness and 2/5 for nutrition.
Summary: A nice snack - for the odd occasion.
