Advantages: Great taste and a favourite flavour of mine.
Disadvantages: It's becoming a very common flavour that isn't always done right.
This is one of the latest flavours from 'Walkers' as part of a campaign for a new addition to the product line where consumers can vote for their favourite flavour.
This flavour has been re-created so many times and I wasn't too bothered about trying them, though of course I did and was pleasantly surprised. I guess because 'Walkers' hasn't yet produced this flavour, then they thought they'd jump on the band wagon. Unfortunately there are several packets to choose from out there, some of which however really get this flavour wrong, and thankfully 'Walkers' didn't.
Firstly they smell very 'Hoisin'-y but it's a flavour I like and the smell isn't too bad so it wasn't such a problem. Once I'd tried the crisps though I was glad I had, finally a company to get this flavour right! The 'Duck' is flavoursome and really comes across in these crisps. The 'Hoisin' sort of steals the show because it's so powerful, so for those who aren't so into 'Hoisin' maybe these aren't the crisps for you. However the flavours work well together, of course it doesn't beat the real thing, tasty duck wrapped in pancakes with hoisin trickled over, but it's a good substitute that doesn't involve any work.
I bought this packet along with the other five flavours in the campaign:
- Builder's Breakfast
- Cajun Squirrel
- Chili & Chocolate
- Fish & Chips
- Onion Bharji
The pack of six, offering two packets of three flavours was on offer from my local Somerfield at a 'Buy one get one free' deal for £1 a pack.
I'm glad 'Walkers' got this flavour right; though it's not for anyone who isn't too keen on 'Hoisin'. With this becoming so popular it doesn't steal my vote, and misses out to another flavour in the campaign. If however you disagree, you can vote for free by texting "CRISPY" to 51199.
Summary: One of the campaign flavours from Walkers, though this doesn't get my vote, it's still good.
