Advantages: tasty, filling
Disadvantages: -
Since I have been working I have found myself snacking a lot in my breaks which I suppose is normal but it has also meant I have been going through a range of crisps and chocolate. My latest favourite which I hadn’t eaten for a while until last week were of course my favourite Dorito’s flavour Cool Original. Dorito’s are crisps that I have always loved and I know they have quite a big range from Cheese and Chilli Heatwave and their range of dips but Cool Original has always been my favourite as it is such a unique taste and the blue coloured packet has always been one I will gladly pick up.
To make things less unhealthy when I buy Cool Original I tend to buy a typical 30g bag as I feel the 245g bag is quite big and I end up just eating it all which is not good. The packaging for Cool Original is really classy, it is a light blue colour and the packets are a foil wrapper. On the front is the Dorito’s text on white so it stands out on the background colour which is darker. The flavour name is also in white writing then on the front are two of the tortilla chips which look very nice on the front. Behind the text is a triangular shape representing the tortilla chip and a design.
The actual crisps themselves are a golden lightly baked tortilla chip. On the triangular shape there are some flavouring speckles which you can see and some are curled up triangles as well. The chips are made with sun seed oil which is meant to be the healthiest oil around with it having lower saturates.
So when you open a bag of Doritos you are instantly hit with the flavour titled Cool Original. The smell is quite spicy; the smell of tortilla crisps hits like baked potatoes. It isn’t too strong a smell but appetising enough that you’ll want to dig right in and eat. The crisps are suitable for vegetarians and on the packet is an address if you need to write away to Walkers and complain about anything on the product.
The crisps contain 8g of fat and are 150 calories a packet which actually isn’t too high. All nutritional information is listed on the back of the packet. So, for the actual taste of a packet of Doritos. Picking up the triangular tortilla chip the taste hits me as I crunch the crisp. The taste to me I would describe as peppery with a few herbs it is lightly spicy but also tastes quite like a plain tortilla mixed in at the back. The taste is quite pleasant and lingers for a bit. The 30g packet is never usually full to the top it is usually only half full but for a 30g bag it’s enough to take away the hunger.
The crisps can be bought in most good supermarkets at a price of around 50p a bag I think but if you buy a multipack you can get 6 packs for 99p which is actually really cheap. You can also get bigger 245g bags which cost £1.48 or you can get a 140g bag which costs 99p. The prices aren’t too bad and they are good value for money the crisps as although the bags aren’t packed with tortillas the flavour and the crisps seem to be really filling.
For more information on the crisps go to http://www.doritos.co.uk on this website it takes you to the Walkers homepage and on it narrow your categories down to the Dorito’s page. On it you find out all of the nutritional information and allergy info. You also get to see a list of all of the ingredients Walkers Cool Original Dorito’s are made of. It is quite a disappointment though as it doesn’t have many fun parts to the site. It does list all of the other flavours in the Doritos range and their dips so that you can try the others.
The internet doesn’t have many online purchasing options for purchasing Dorito’s for those who can’t get to buy them. The only option I found was to buy them in bulk buy which is too expensive.
I’d recommend Dorito’s too anyone who likes a rich and tasty flavoured crisp which is slightly spicy but not too bad. It is also a filling snack and the calories aren’t too bad in the crisps.
