Advantages: Tasty, tortilla style is different, good flavour
Disadvantages: Cheese breath! Inconsistency.
Doritos are a tortilla style chip that are really tasty and will be enjoyed by most people. The flavour of my choice is the Tangy Cheese so I will be reviewing it today.
Packaging
Tangy Cheese Doritos come in a bright orange bag, very noticeable to anybody looking on the shelves. On the front of the packet you have the Doritos logo, the D of Doritos is in a blue triangle and the I in Doritos is dotted with a triangle. Below that you have the flavour of your Doritos, again this is clearly visible from the colour of the packet but if you are new to Doritos this is where you find out the flavour. Then you have some Doritos crisps, they are triangular in shape and are orange, next to them is a picture of a block of cheese which has been sliced. The background of the packet is quite modern featuring orange 3d prisms everywhere which looks really sleek and gives the effect that the Doritos are bursting out of their packet. You also have a handy indicator of the nutritional values that your bag of Doritos contains. On the rear of the bag you have the ingredients and nutritional information. To prevent soft crisps the bag is made from a plastic foil like material to keep your crisps fresh.
The crisps
Once you have opened the bag you will immediately be hit with the smell of cheesy goodness, this may put some people off as the smell really is quite strong, it's not an unpleasant aroma for too long as the strong smell gradually fades as the pack remains open. The crisps inside are triangular in shape with some being like the large triangular chips on the front of the packet and others being tiny fragments, they are covered in an orange cheesy coating which will get all over your fingers as you eat them, and anything you touch will be left a bright orange! The crisps are very crispy as you would like them and they have a nice crunch to them as you tuck in, the taste is quite strong and reminiscent of a strong tangy cheese as it should be, after the crisp has been consumed you get a strong salty aftertaste which can sometimes overpower the cheese flavour. I find you can also get inconsistencies in the flavour of crisps with some being very strong and some with barely any flavouring at all, to remedy this just give the bag a quick shake before you open it, not to violently as you don't want tangy cheese dust! Once you have finished eating your breath will stink of Doritos so remember to go and brush your teeth or at least have a stick of chewing gum handy. Doritos are quite filling which is good as after your bag you will feel satisfied.
Nutritional Info
A single bag of Doritos is 40grams and contains 200 calories, 1.2grams of sugar, 10 grams of fat of which 1.2 is saturated fat and .7 grams of salt. They are not as bad as some crisps and as they are quite filling you won't need to get another bag to feel full (unless you're hungry/greedy!).
Price & Conclusion
A single bag of Tangy Cheese Doritos will cost you around 40-60p depending on where you get them. You can also get other flavours such as Cool Original and Chilli Heatwave, you can also buy multipacks from supermarkets which contain all three flavours to save some money but I think the multipack bags are slightly smaller. Doritos also do some lightly salted dipping chips as well as their own brand of salsa which is fun but messy! I recommend the Tangy Cheese Doritos to anybody looking for a good bag of crisps to enjoy for a snack or at lunchtime, the tortilla style crisps are a change from the traditional crisp which makes them a fun treat, just be prepared for cheesy breath! 4/5
Summary: Perfect for a snack!
