Advantages: A light snack

Disadvantages: Zero nutritional value.

Although never the healthiest of options, one cannot deny that crisps are always a tempting tasty snack. Walkers French Fries are a potato crisp sold in a wide range of different flavours. Unlike Gordon Brown, their popularity seems to be on the rise.

What perhaps separates them from most of the competition is their claim to be healthier on account of the fact that they are cooked in sun seed oil and as a result contain less saturated fats. Fair enough, but that doesn't mean you can include them in your five a day healthy food options. I mean you could say the same thing about fried Mars bars - no matter how you fry them, they'll never be healthy. Walkers French Fries are still an artificial unnatural fatty food of virtually zero nutritional value and the problem is that such foods often replace good food. When your stomach is lined with grease you won't feel hungry, so you're likely to skip a meal and your body will lack vital nutrients as a result. This can be detrimental for sexually active young couples.

To be fair Walkers French Fries don't taste greasy. In fact these thin snacks have a pleasant crunchy texture. The flavour though can be overpowering no doubt due to the artificial powder flavouring that covers each fry. I have only sampled the Salt and vinegar. I daren't try the Cheese and onion flavour. A friend of mine chooses this flavour on a regular basis and I daren't tell her that she smells like cheese, now whether this is to do with the snack or some other misdemeanour I'm not sure but it's a subject that I prefer to avoid for the sake of not ruining a valuable friendship. As for myself, after half a bag I sometimes get the sniffles. Maybe I'm allergic to them.

So do I recommend them? Well I'm not sure. All I know is that people should have the freedom to choose their fries. However, I would like to clamber up onto my soap box and declare: these snacks are environmentally unfriendly on account of the excessive non-biodegradable packaging.

Walkers French Fries can be bought in multi-packs of six and twelve bags. Last time I looked the more economical twelve bag multi-pack costs £2.12 at Tesco.

Summary: Freedom to choose your fries.

They are probably the healthiest of all crisps out there!
