Advantages: Lower in fat and calories than other crisps
Disadvantages: Don't taste too good!
Walkers are perhaps the most well known brand of crisps around at the moment, particularly with their campaign to find a new flavour, created by a member of the general public. While I usually enjoy their crisps, I'm afraid to say that this campaign has produced six flavours that I haven't actually been all that impressed with.
Unfortunately, the same goes for these crisps. Walkers have intended here to go for a crisp that is lighter, and ultimately better for you. And, no, you cynics, they haven't just put less crisps in the bag!
What they have done is create a crisp that feels like it is healthier when you start eating. However, it also feels like you're not eating that much at all, and it does lose something in the taste as well. It is almost like it's a feeble crisp compared to the more regular products from Walkers.
True, it is healthier, cutting the calories by 33% apparently, and reducing the fat by a substantial amount, too. But I'm not so sure that it's worth the cut in taste. A 24g bag of these will still give you 113 calories, 14.6g of carbs and 5.3g of fat. This is a step down from the 8g of fat you normally get in a packet of Walkers crisps, but it is STILL A PACKET OF CRISPS!!!
Personally, I buy crisps because I like them. I like them because they taste nice and they often fill me up, and they're easy to use. If you take away the full flavour, as Walkers seem to have managed to do with these crisps, then they lose a large part of their appeal. If you are looking to reduce fat and carb and calories, then perhaps eating crisps is the first thing to completely cut out of your diet altogether.
That having been said, these crisps are better for you than regular Walkers' flavours, so if you are going to carry on eating crisps, then these are better than a lot of brands and flavours (as long as you don't mind the lack of taste) and you could do a lot worse. The crisps are readily available in many supermarkets and shops, and generally, you can get a single apcket for under 50p and a pack of 6 for around the £1.50 mark. Not one I recommend, although for me it's all about taste.
Summary: Healthier crisps that don't taste so great
