Advantages: Low in sat fat, very very tsaty
Disadvantages: Moreish, a bit messy to eat
I am always looking for snack foods which are not too high in saturated fat, this week I was in Home Bargains and realised that they sell multipacks of these for 99p, even better, these specific bags the regular 6 packs plus 2 packs free. 99p for 8 bags? Thats less than 13p a bag!
Before buying I checked the nutritional info and was pleased to see that in alignment with the rest of the Walkers range these have been altered to be made with much healthier sunseed oil which means that they now contain 80% less saturated fat than they did when I was little.
I do remember having these as a child and they always felt like such a treat, maybe because the bags and the pieces themselves were so huge. They have recently revived the old flavours so my multipack contained 3 x Roast Beef, 3 x Pickled Onion and 2 x Flamin Hot flavour.
Each bag contains just 108 calories and 0.5 grams of sat fat, this means on the weight watchers plan a packet is just 1.5 points and well within my snacking quota for the day! Please bear in mind though that these values are for the smaller multipack bags and not the larger (40g) 'grab bags' that you get in service stations and the like.
I love the flavours of these snacks, the pickled onion variety really make your tongue fizz with the strong vinegar flavour and the roast beef brings back childhood memories. The flamin hot flavour is a more recent addition but it really is quite spicy and sweet. I really like the way the flavours are so vivid and personally I like the very crunchy, starchy texture to them and the way the flavouring gets all over your fingers - although this can make them a bit messy to eat.
These are not made of potato but of maize and they are baked which helps with the fat content. The best thing about them is, in my opinion, they feel like a naughty treat when I am dieting but actually are not too bad and work well within my daily points plan, they certainly tick all the boxes for me!
If you have a local Home Bargains store it is worth checking there for multipack crisps and snacks like this because they often have lots of varieties in for a fraction of normal supermarket cost.
A great, fairly low fat and very tasty snack!
Summary: A great snack and can work within weight watchers plan
