Advantages: Tasty, Good Qualitiy Crisps

Disadvantages: Price, Taste a little...fake?

I do love a good bag of crisps every now and then, I find them so easy to eat I could probably munch through a multipack with ease if I let myself. So recently I've tried to stick to buying just the occasional single pack, which I must add works out mightily expensive in comparison, and I'd definitely recommend buying multipack instead.

Walkers Prawn Cocktail can usually be found in your local supermarket for around 40p, for a 34.5g packet. They come in a foil bag, which is bright pink in colour and has the classic Walker's logo on the front, along with the flavour name and a stock photo of some crisps. At the bottom front of the bag there is the typical nutritional values for the pack, a vegetarian V sign and a symbol stating that Walkers are working with the Carbon trust (and that the Carbon footprint for this pack is 80g.)

Once you open the bag, you'll probably be disappointed to find that there's just as much air inside as there is crisps, with the pack roughly about 55% full. You can immediately smell the flavour, which I wouldn't quite describe as smelling like prawns, but it's definitely the crisp equivalent. The crisps vary in size, but unless the bag has been crushed, there's usually quite a few good sized ones and they have a great crunch to them. The flavour is strong, but not overpowering at all, and as long as you like it then the crisps will be very tasty! Like with most crisps, there's a reasonable amount of salt in them and also on them, so be prepared to get a little stuck to your fingers while eating!

Product and brand information:
'For those spuds who like to be beside the seaside our lip-smacking sweet and saucy prawn cocktail is the only flavour for them. And although we normally like our potatoes to be good natured and 'down-to-earth', when it comes to competing to get into this bag of Walkers crisps, we went for the ones that were the most 'shellfish'!'

Each 34.5g portion (1 bag) contains:
1880 kcal (9% RDA)
0.7g Sugar (1% RDA)
11.3g Fat (16% RDA) (Oh dear!)
0.9g Saturates (5% RDA)
0.48g Salt (8% RDA)

The crisps also contain no MSG, no preservatives or artificial colours, and are suitable for both veggies and coeliacs. They are made using 'Sunseed Oil', which is walkers new healthy choice of cooking product and contains for less saturates.

Overall, it's a good tasting packet of crisps. They're very easy to eat and make a handy snack or accompaniment for a sandwich or bowl of soup. The favour isn't what I'd assume a prawn cocktail would actually taste like, but none the less it's nice enough. You can tell that the flavour has been altered by the added sugar and sweeteners, but it's still very tasty. If you're one of the people who've never tried this Walkers flavour, I'd definitely advise picking up a bag next time you got shopping!

Summary: 8/10
