Advantages: Tasty, low in calories, fun to eat

Disadvantages: Not many in a bag

Yum, what could be nicer than a lovely light, melt in the mouthy, cheesy flavoured packet of crisps. Every once in a while I like to have a break from my usual Walkers regular crisps and always turn to Quavers!

They have actually been around now for over 30 years!

In 2007 Quavers, along with a number of other Walkers crisp products, were repackaged to include the fact that they are now made with Sunseed oil. This is apparently one of the healthiest oils that you can cook with. According to the back of the Quavers packet Sunseed is naturally high in mono-unsaturates and naturally low in saturates! It claims that the crisps now have 80% less saturated fat. To me they just taste the same as they did a few years ago which I guess is what they were trying to achieve, a healthier crisp without changing the taste.

If you've never had a Quaver (where have you been?) I will try to describe them. They are a made from reconstituted potatoes. They are almost like a maize type snack. They are quite light and airy, they are sort of full of little holes if that makes sense, ie not a complete slice of potato like regular Walkers. They are quite long and often bended so it gives the crisp quite a nice crunch when you eat it.

The original flavour was cheese. They really are very cheesy so if you don't like cheesy crisps then I would not recommend these for you. They now also come in the following flavours, bacon, prawn cocktail and salt and vinegar although in my opinion the cheese ones are by far the best and if you were actually looking for crisps in any of the other flavours I would not recommend these. I would be more likely to suggest Skips or regular Walkers for the Salt and Vinegar flavour.

The best thing about these crisps is that each packet contains only 87 calories! This compares well to a packet of say regular Walkers crisps that have on average 131 calories. Sometimes one bag does not really fill me up though because there are not many crisps in a 25g bag so I do sometimes have two but they are still a lot healthier than most!

Summary: A lovely, crunchy, light and airy crisp sensation!
