Advantages: Low in fat and calories, tasty, original
Disadvantages: Can't exactly be described as healthy
I love eating crisps. Even when I am dieting, I still like to treat myself with a packet but I tend to stick to the lower fat crisps, such as Quavers.
Packaging
Quavers crisps come in a bright yellow (almost florescent) packet. The walkers logo is printed on the packet in bright red and Quavers is written in a bright green colour. Overall the packet is quite eye catching and very easy to notice on the shelf because of all the bright colours. Also on the front of the packet is the nutritional info such as calories, fat content etc.
Price
Quavers come in two sizes as far as I am aware, which are a 22g bag and a 34g bag. In my local shop, the 22g bag retails for 35p and the 34g bag retails for 55p. I always find that Quavers tend to be cheaper than some of the other brands, such as McCoy's.
Nutritional Information
A 22g bag contains
87 calories
4.9g fat
A 34g bag contains
180 calories
9.8g fat
So as you can see, although they would never be defined as being healthy, they do actually contain much less fat and calories than your average packet of crisps.
Quavers
Although Quavers do come in various flavours, the packet I am reviewing is the cheese favour.
Quavers are an odd shape for a crisp; they are long and thin, but also flat. Each crisp has air perforations on them to keep the light (and lower in fat). Upon opening the packet, it is clear to tell that they are cheese flavour as you can smell it quite easily. When you place a Quaver in your mouth, again, it is clear to see how these differ from other crisps as they tend to fizz on your tongue (in a similar way to Skips) and although Quavers are crunchy, they are not crunchy in the same sense as your normal crisps. Quavers are cooked in sunflower oil rather than vegetable oil which means they have a reduced level of fat! Colour wise Quavers are a golden colour with an orange tint.
Summary
As you've probably guess, I love Quavers. I love the fact that they are low in fat and calorie content compared to other crisps. I often enjoy a packet of McCoy's which contain a whopping 256 calories so as you can imagine, when I am on a healthy eating spree, the calorie content of Quavers is much more appealing. They are a joy to eat and I like the fact that they fizzle on your tongue and are still crunchy at the same time. Quavers are full of flavour and with them being strange shapes; the flavour often gets caught under the curls, releasing a burst of cheesy flavour as you eat them.
Summary: A great low fat snack
