Advantages: you can add as much or as little salt as you like

Disadvantages: blue bag always at the bottom so you have to search for it

These crisps are so easily recognisable by its blue and white bag.

Although these crisps are made by Walkers they are originally made by Smiths.

I bought these crisps firstly out of curiosity and secondly because of sentimental reasons.

Let me explain this for all the younger dooyooers reading this.

When I was young (I know, here we go again) there were only plain crisps on the market. Yes thats right we didnt have a choice of vinegar, prawn cocktail and all the other varieties you have today.

Then suddenly there were crisps that you could put salt on.

They came with a little blue bag of salt with a twisted top. You could then put as much or as little of the salt on the crisps as you liked.

You could bet your life though that no matter how you openned the crisp bag that little blue bag was at the bottom. It wasnt unknown for you to have some crisps in your mouth and you to bite into the blue bag! You also had to really shake the packet of crisps so that all the salt didnt land on just one crisp or settle at the bottom of the packet.

So they have decided to bring back these crisps I suppose especially for us oldies to reminise about crisps in our time!

They are no longer made by Smiths but by Walkers. The bag is still blue and white. I cannot think how much we used to pay for them but today they are about £1.06 for 6 depending on where you buy them.

Today they have a blue packet of salt but it is a small packet. Mind you opening them is the same the bag is still at the bottom of the pack and you still have to shake them as the name implies.

So why buy them today? Well with all the news about how much salt we should intake a day this is good as you can judge for yourself how much salt to put on and use from the packet.

I think most people that have been brought up knowing different flavours will find these crisps a bit bland. Me, I only like ready salted so I do actually like these crisps.

I also think that the crisps inside are just that little bit bigger than in other packets although the weight is still 24g. I have not had a packet where any of the crisps are broken either.

Summary: Walkers have brought back the old fashioned crisps from Smiths
