Smoky bacon - you have changed, but for the better (Walkers Smoky Bacon Flavour Crisps)

Advantages: Milder taste, less greasy than before, healthier

Walkers crisps have changed over the years, that fact is inescapable. This is mostly due to increased pressure from a public demanding healthier snacks so that it can still eat lots of 'bad' food but not get as fat quite so quickly. Such changes have been detrimental to some flavours of crisps, but beneficial to others, bizarrely: Salt and Vinegar have suffered, whereas smoky bacon have, in my opinion, improved massively and are now my favourite Walkers variety.

I can't pinpoint exactly what change has occured, but it has resulted in a somewhat more mellow bacon flavour, which I believe is a vast improvement over the overpowering taste of smoky bacon in the past.

The reduction in grease and generally unhealthy additives probably contributes towards this noticed improvement too, and if not, well, it makes me feel better about eating them anyway. The fact that crisps aren't the terrible, evil snack that they used to be must subconsciously cause less guilt, which results in more satisfaction. That's my theory anyway.

My only criticism is that it is often difficult to distinguish the packaging from Prawn Cocktail flavour Walkers, especially when digging through a multipack - the number of times I've gone for the LAST packet of smoky bacon, only to be heart-broken when I find it is in fact that most inferior of flavours, prawn cocktail, is far too high. Otherwise, there is nothing negative I can say about this particular flavour.

So, overall I'd have to say it's pretty smokin'.
