When I was first introduced to Dorito's a couple of years ago, I pulled my nose up and wouldn't try them. They looked horrible, smelled horrible and did not come across as the kind of snack that I would eat and like.
It was when I went to Mexican Restaurant and one of my friends that I was with had a portion of Nacho's at that particular time, I wasn't aware that they were more or less the same thing so reluctantly I tried one and much to my surprise I actually liked them.
On my next shopping trip and still to this day I find myself putting a couple of the large family sized bags in my shopping trolley. I can buy the small ones or multi-packs as I find that once I start I can't stop so I will just down a large bag to myself in one sitting because they are so addictive.
Dorito's are Tortilla chip that was invented in Mexico in 1521. Over that period of time Dorito's were not available, it was in 1966 that the prodcut actually become available in America and later here in the UK in 1994.
When you open a bag of Tangy Cheese Dorito's, the first thing that hits you is that pungent smell of cheese. It is an extremely potent smell and to be honest does not smell very nice, but its the taste of Dorito's that leaves you wanting more.
They come in the shape of a triangle some with little bubbles in them where the product had been fried and they have blown up a little. The colour of the product just goes to show how much flavouring they actually cover this product in. YOu can imagine it being a golden colour when manufactured until they add the cheese flavour and then the turn into a orange powdery coated tortilla.
When you taste Dorito's the first thing that hits you is that intense flavouring of cheese and it does stick to the name on the packet, it is extremely tangy and there is plenty of flavouring on them as you initially imagine when you looks at one before actually tasting it. As you chew the crisp you can taste the corn. They are very crunchy and as I mentioned before they are addictive and once you start you are not going to put a bag down if you like them.
The only downfall is the smell, once you have eaten a bag of these you either need to go and brush your teeth or is you have chewing gum at hand, have a piece, and the flavouring is very potent.
In a 35 packet the standard size, there are 175 calories, so in comparison to a bag of crisps they are not to bad, as standard bags of crisps normally weigh in and around the region of 25g. These also seem to have a little more protein in than a normal bag of crisps and less carbohydrates of which is sugars so in general to me they do actually come across as a better form of snack in terms of nutritional information. The good thing is because they are made of corn you seem to fill up quickly with these than normal crisps.
They are available in other flavours, however I tend to stick to the Tangy Cheese which are my favourite.
