Advantages: Crunchy
Disadvantages: Messy, unnatural tasting, sweet and sickly
After getting a taste for Doritos again after having a bag of Chilli Heatwave flavour I decided to buy a multipack of Doritos which included a variety of flavours. I had never tried the Tangy Cheese flavour for years ......... and after trying a bag I realised why I had stayed clear of these crisps for so long!
***Packaging***
Tangy Cheese Doritos come in a standard sized and shaped bag, as do most bags of crisps. This is brightly coloured and stands out when on the shelf. The packaging is bright orange with black trim and an image of a Tangy Cheese Dorito on the front of the crisps packet. This is a golden slightly orange coloured crisps. Interestingly the image on the front of the packet has been toned down and the colour of the crisps are actually a lot more orange.
***Price***
A 30g bag of Doritos are priced at 40p in my local newsagent, the same price as other standard sized bags from Walkers etc. You can also purchase a multipack of 6 30g bags of Cheese Doritos from Asda for £1.29, and there is currently on offer on these crisps offering 3 6 pack multipacks for £3. Great value for those that like these flavoured Doritos.
These also come in a 225g sized bag for "sharing". A bag of this size is priced at £1.49 in Asda although are often on special for £1 a bag.
***Cheese Doritos***
As soon as you open the bag of Doritos you are hit with an extremely strong smell. This is really unpleasant and actually put me off eating the crisps. The smell is of strong cheese, much stronger than opening a bag of Cheese flavoured Quavers and much more of an unnatural scent that actual strong cheeses.
Once I had got over the strong scent I managed to try one of the crisps. Gingerly picking it out of the bag I studied the Cheese flavoured tortilla crisps before eating it. The crisps is very noticeably orange, not just a slight orange hue but very orange. I then noticed that this orange colour was actually and orange covered dust on the golden crisp and this orange flavouring/ "dust had already transferred onto my fingers making these a very messy crisp to eat.
I popped the crisp in my mouth and immediately I was hit with a very salty taste before I then could taste what can only be described as a very strong unnatural cheesy taste. The crisp is very crunchy and has a nice crunch to eat it but that is the only positive in my opinion. The cheese taste remains and the "tangy" taste hits you. I would not describe this taste as "tangy" simply cheesy which has a sweet sickly after taste to it.
I only managed about 3 of these crisps before I gave my bag to Mr Lools as "he does not like food to go to waste" . He finished the bag but pulled numerous faces whilst eating and asked me to buy different crisps in future. In his language that means "I don't like these crisps".
After eating brushing your teeth, washing your hands and chewing gum is essential as your breath and hands are left smelling of the awful unnatural cheese scent. A cheese scent which I can only describe as a cross between mouldy gone off cheese and sweaty shoes. Extremely unpleasant.

Not the unhealthiest crisps you could eat but also not the healthiest crisps you could eat either. The crisps also contain mono sodium glutamate
***Overall***
I am a massive fan of tortilla crisps, strong tastes and cheese flavoured crisps therefore you would assume Tangy Cheese Doritos would fit this bill and I would enjoy a bag... absolutely not. These certainly are a bag of crisps that I will be avoiding as the cheese taste is certainly unnatural and the scent of the crisps is disgusting, a cross between mouldy cheese and sweaty feet. I think I will have to even avoid sitting in the same room as someone eating these crisps I find them that vile.......
Summary: Strong Cheesy Flavoured Tortillas that will make you stink
