Advantages: Very more-ish
Disadvantages: VERY more-ish!
Magnum Colombia Aroma Choco-Cappuccino was what faced me when I looked into the ‘special offers’ fridge in Tesco’s the other day. Could I resist them? I would like to be able to say that my will power was strong enough – but it WAS buy one get one free (BOGOF) – which did rather tip the scales in the favour of my trying something new! That is MY excuse anyway.
The box is the same format as other Magnum boxes but in a sort of caramel colour – I would hardly call it cappuccino coloured – but it is attractive even so. There is a picture in the lower left-hand corner of a coffee bean and the statement “Colombian selected coffee” and the lower right-hand corner has a picture of the Magnum ice cream that you can expect to find inside – only hopefully, you would not find one with the top bitten off as this has to illustrate the difference from other Magnum bars. As usual, there are three bars (or ice cream lollies) in the box at a cost of £2.49 – but, as I mentioned, BOGOF at Tesco’s at the present time.
You will notice, from the illustration on the box, that the milk chocolate coating is not smooth but knobbly! This is because it contains caramelised sugar pieces which give a crunchy texture. The ice cream itself is vanilla but is swirled through with a dark coffee sauce. This is made from Colombian coffee, which you may already know, is a great favourite of mine. I can only say that in my opinion the taste is really authentic.
The overall taste is of a really good cappuccino, so much so in fact, that I was surprised to find that it was vanilla ice cream rather than coffee flavoured. As usual, the ice cream is very creamy and the addition of the sauce does nothing to take away the general feeling of luxury. One the whole, I DO rather feel that it is more of an adult ice cream than most – although I would have probably loved it as a child anyway, but possibly not as a favourite as it definitely is now.
Now, would I buy them again? Well, to be honest I already have! I am not generally in the habit of spending £2.49 on three ice creams as I feel that there are alternatives that cost much less. However, £2.49 for SIX is not so bad for a special treat!
Would I recommend them? Well, if you really like cappuccino and ice cream and feel like a treat – definitely! I have to say that there are six in my fridge as I write this – I don’t know how long that situation will last though!
I really hope that I have made your mouths water with this review – and I thank you for reading.

- 18/04/07 I got these and the dark choc ones in Tesco. I've polished the dark ones off and left hubby the coffee ones. |
