Advantages: Tastes delicious, Good chocolate
Disadvantages: Can get messy
Last night we had a revelation, my partner and my daughter ate a Walnut Whip EACH!! My other half, at the ripe old age of 29 has never bit a Whip in his life, night-time or otherwise! Not for the want of a little encouragement from me. I've been trying to get him to accept a Whip in ages, still no luck until trawling through the shelves of Asda and I saw a box of 3 and told Alan he was trying a Whip that night or else.... Why does he avoid them, cos he doesn't like nuts at all, in any shape, form or taste, and obviously the big problem with this little munchie is the aforementioned walnut. It took much encouragement, I was almost on my knees begging, but finally Alan relented and I got my way! They come in a lovely blue foil packet and are an interesting 'volcano' shape with a half walnut perched on top, which was eyed very suspiciously. There was a sigh of relief as the walnut came off very easily with no nutty bits left behind (To be honest, I dont like them either). I'm sure they stuck it on top so they could have a more decent name then plain old 'vanilla volcano thingy with whippy stuff in the middle' After a bit of persuasion that the rest had no nuts in it or wasn't nut flavoured that was going to sink his teeth into, he finally relented.. The top is a really thick chunk of milk chocolate and inside is a lovely fluffy vanilla fondant, of course you could bite the thick chocolate sides to get to the centre, suck it out, or stick you tongue in, waggle it about and scoop it out. Eventually you are left with the base which is another thick piece of chocolate. By this time its getting a bit melty and you will end up with chocolate bits on the old fingers. Who gets to suck it off is personally up to you!! The chocolate is creamy and delicious, and melts without a whisper of complaint, knibbling with false teeth may be difficult and look a lot less sexy because the chocolate is so thick! The winner is the van
illa fondant, in America (dont know if they sell it here) they sell it in big jars and use it it so make 'smores' (biscuits with melted choclate and vanilla fondant in the middle). If I could get my hands on a big jar of this stuff...oh the fun I could have! The only problem is that if you keep eating these, anything physical is going to get a little bit difficult, its only 174 calories but a whopping 8.9grams of fat!! Carbs are 21.3 grams of which sugar is 20.1 grams. And the protein is 2.1g. If you're prone to becoming the old pear shape if you eat too much of a good thing, well eat enough of these, wrap yourself in a bit of blue foil, stick a funny hat on your head and you could pass for a Walnut Whip at a fancy dress party! The price is also difficult to quantify, you can find it anywhere from 35p to 50p+. A 3 box was a bargain at around £1.10. And yes he was impressed, he finally saw my point of view that Whips could be a very good and nice thing.Am I going to see a lot more of Alan with a Whip stuck in his mouth, I hope so!!

- 04/02/04 I like the vanilla fondant after biting the top off but find the chocolate too thick. |

- 03/02/04 You know with marshmallow wafers, you just have to eat the wafer edges before going for the mallow? And how you have special ways of approaching eating special sweets like these? I just can't work out how best to eat these, and that's my problem with them. If you open it up and suck the middle out, and eat the chocolate, you're left with a silly walnut. Go for that first and it feels too dutifull.
