Little reminds me of my childhood as much as a hot toasted crumpets spread thickly with butter and honey or jam. They bring back memories of cold evenings, snuggled with mum, happy times. Whilst wandering around the bread aisles of the supermarket I noticed the crumpets and wondered whether my own young son would like them. Crumpets are so easy to serve. I like mine toasted (although you can just eat them straight from the packet) and I find that they're easier to toast under the grill rather than in a toaster as you have more control over how well done they are. I always toast both sides though! Once toasted spread with butter and jam, honey or even ... Read the complete review

Sometimes when I want a snack or something different for breakfast it is nice every now and then to have a change from cereal and also from snacking on crisps and cakes. Every since starting my new job in the office I work with crumpet fans and so they are always eating them and they made me some the other day. Now bare in mind I have always gone ugh crumpets in disgust as they have always been to me a typical English stereotype, which have never looked appealing to try. However, there they were sat on a plate in front of me and I braved the bite and have to say there has been no turning back I am officially addicted. George and Thomas Warburton, two brothers ... Nothing beats a nice cup of tea and a buttered toasted crumpet! I hadn't had a crumpet in years and then one day as I was aimlessly wandering round my local tesco these caught my eye. Warburton's is well known for producing good quality food so I thought I'd give them a try. It is 72p for a 6 pack so they aren't exactly expensive! I toasted one that night for supper and it was damn good actually! They are amazing with butter but I have also discovered that they are equally as good with a nice chocolate spread such as Nutella. I must mention that they are less than 1% fat but that is obviously before butter and toppings are added! They are ... Read the complete review

Normally crumpets are something I buy on the cheap simply because we normally find that by a couple of days after the shop they have normally reached there use by date and not been eaten not because I do not love crumpets but because none of us regularly eat breakfast at home. This Saturday however, my normal brand was nowhere to be seen so I opted for these instead. I tried them that evening as having had a big lunch I didn't feel like a proper tea so went for these and am impressed and doubt I will be going back to the regular brand now. These crumpets are not the normal quite hard and stodgy variety that I am used to they are light and airy and ... Read the complete review

Crumpets must be one of the most extraordinary bakery items out there. Who first came up with idea to make a savoury cake, full of enormous holes on top, thick, crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside and resembling a bathroom sponge underneath? It can't possibly have been planned! Surely it was just a very happy accident. An eccentric, British invention without a doubt. The Oxford English Dictionary traces the history of the word and recipe for crumpets back to 1382, although these crumpets were actually a hard type of pancake cooked on a griddle. The probable origin of the word "crumpet" is from the Welsh word "cremog" which is a ... Read the complete review
