I have recently had rather a weird and wonderful experience with a teacake, I was out shopping with an elderly friend and we had to make a pit stop. The pit stop enables her to rest her legs for half an hour, have a lovely hot cup of tea (or so we thought) and if there is an offer running in the cafe then maybe a teacake or a bun along with it. Tesco have recently been running a special offer, a toasted teacake and a cup of tea for not much over £1, so I ordered two of the specials only to be told that hot drinks were off of the menu due to a boiler breakdown but they had plenty of cold drinks, I can tell you a glass of Pepsi and a toasted teacake aren't a match ... WARBURTONS FRUITY TEA CAKES Having just bought some of these from Tesco's and eating one toasted, I thought I would write a review of what they are actually like. ***What are they like?*** Well, there are four teacakes to a packet and as I have been buying these for quite a while now, I will first of all say watch out for the best before date. If you don't buy them with anything other than the longest best before date, they taste slightly hard and lose their freshness quite quickly. You need to dig around at the back of the shelf and get the best available date. They are quite soft and even though they only contain a modest ... Read the complete review

If for breakfast you want an alternative to toast how about trying a Fruity Tea Cake? I mean though a Warburtons teacake. At the moment tescos are selling them at 2 packs of 4 for a £1 instead of around 84p each so it is a good time to try them. Even Jonathan Warburton says they are great toasted but not sure why they are called cakes! To describe them is hard. They are roundish, 3-4", and 1" high, I suppose you could say they taste a bit like bread with currants and sultanas in it. Ingredients Wheat flour, water, currants, sultanas, sugar, yeast, vegetable oil, salt, E472e E471, soyal flour and ... Read the complete review

Popping to the co-op yesterday for some milk these teacakes were reduced as they were going out of date the next day. So I only paid 50p rather than the usual selling price of £1.04p (seems an odd price). I decided to have them today with my mid morning coffee. I split the tea cakes in half and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of fruit that the teacake contained. I popped them in the toaster on a medium setting and waited. They were just toasted so that they were crunchy on top. I don't like them too well done but I don't want them to go cold as soon as put the butter on. Considering taht they were at the limit of their freshness the teacakes ... Read the complete review
