Advantages: large, tasty, good texture, lasts a good few days without going dry
Disadvantages: not the healthiest nor the cheapest bread around
I can't believe that I've only just got around to writing about Warburtons Medium sliced bread - it's our family's all-time favourite white one.
I see from the packaging that it's National Bread Week 4 -10th May!
It's by no means the cheapest - around £1.29 - £1.49 per loaf but in our opinion it's worth paying the extra for the taste & texture.
I've tried cheaper breads but have found the too dry, too soggy or that they don't last as long so I keep going back to good old Warb's.
They are quite a big size (800g) & I'm guessing there are about 24 slices plus 2 crusts which aren't out of proportion & are wrapped in blue & white waxed paper with the Warburton's logo & the famous 'Family bakers since 1876' statement on each side.
The bread itself is very white with golden brown crusts & is an ideal size for both toasting & making sandwiches. It's soft yet spongy to the touch & tastes lovely even just with butter.
I'm aware that it's not the healthiest bread around & we should really be eating wholemeal or at least 50/50 but this white bread is so filling & comforting & has a taste all of its own.
The nutritional values are clearly listed so I won't bore you with them but just to let you know if you (like me) are watching what you eat each slice contains the following -
calories -94
fat - 0.8g
salt - 0.46g
fibre - 1.0g
The ingredients are also listed some of which are natural (wheat & soya flour etc) but also some addiditives to prevent yeast mould.
Allergy advice tells us that the bread contains wheat gluten & soya & has been produced in a bakery which uses milk, sesame seeds & barley - so it may not suit everyone unfortunately.
Also on the pack are storage instructions,a customer care address, phone no & website address.
Although our family loves this bread I see from one review that it really wasn't to their taste & they found it stuck to the roof of their mouth - I've not had this problem & I guess everyone has their own taste in breads.
In an ideal world I'd be baking my own but it's such a time-consuming process & I know I'd devour a loaf on my own as soon as it was taken from the oven so I'm sticking to Warburtons despite the price.
summary
~
- by no means the cheapest bread on the market.
- not as healthy as many breads.
- freezes well (although it's better 'fresh')
- good sized slices.
- great texture & taste in our opinion.
- lasts about 5 days in our bread bin.
Summary: in our opinion the nicest-tasting, best white bread around
