Fruit and Nut with Milk Chocolate
I can't believe that mine is the first review of these bars... am I the only one who's addicted to these things? My mouth is watering from just looking at the box. Isn't it great when they add chocolate to every thing? Anyway, the chocolate is not the only reason why I bought this product; I always buy more than one cereal box every time I go shopping, because I like how they can make these healthy ingredients so yummy. This 174g box which contains six 29g bars is sold in Asda for £1.99, in Tesco for £1.91, and in Sainsbury's for £1.98. So, it's available everywhere and not very expensive.
Like most cereal bars, the product comes in recyclable cardboard box and the bars are individually wrapped. Unfortunately the smell of milk chocolate in it is somewhat faint, and this is strange for me because the bar is half coated with milk chocolate. Only 30% of each bar is made of three kinds of cereals: whole wheat, rice, and oats. In addition to the milk chocolate coating, the other two main ingredients are 9.5% raisins and only 3.4% chopped hazelnuts and almonds, and herein lies the problem. The chopped nuts are so tiny that you might not notice them.
Apart from this, the cereals are chewy, the raisins are juicy, and the milk chocolate is fantastic with all the other ingredients. And I noticed that apple juice from concentrate is used in it too, and I don't know if this is one of the reasons why it is so moist. So, with the exception of the chopped nuts that should have been larger, everything is perfect.
If you are allergic to wheat, barley, oats, milk, soya, hazelnuts and almonds, you should stay away from this product, but it is suitable for vegetarians. Although the base is coated with milk chocolate, the 29g bar gives no more than 124 calories. One problem with the box is that the nutritional information is not detailed, for in addition to the protein (2.1g), the carbohydrates (19.7g), and the fat (4.1g), nothing is mentioned. However, if you want to know more about not just the nutritional info but also the ingredients and other useful things about the product, please visit: < http://www.weetabix.co.uk/brands/alpen-bars /alpen-bar-fruit-and-nut-with-chocolate/ > and use the three tabs to choose the kind of info you need to know.
For me, it's a fantastic product, but if you are not interested in milk chocolate for some reason, you can choose from:
1. Alpen bar Apple & Blackberry
2. Alpen bar Fruit & Nut (without chocolate)
3. Alpen bar Raspberry & Yogurt
4. Alpen bar Strawberry & Yogurt
Or, in case you want something that gives less calories, you can choose from the different Alpen Light varieties.
