I think that in the main the chocolate that you seem to taste is coming from within the cereal bar, maybe in the form of cocoa and the sharp yet very pleasant `orangey` flavour is one that you can smell as soon as you unwrap the bar and it is the last thing that you taste as you finish the cereal bar. The coarse cereal mixture does tend to stick i...more

Alpen Light - Chocolate and Orange ********************************** I've never been a huge fan of cereal bars but as I have recently become aware that I eat far too much chocolate (What's that? There's no such thing as too much chocolate, ah, you're right!) I thought it was about time to start looking for some healthier alternatives. These Alpen bars stood out to me, probably because they were on promotion at my local Asda! What's in them? ***************** These bars are made from wholegrain wheatflakes and oats which have been combined with chocolate to give the whole bar a chocolate-y taste. There is also a drizzle ...  Read the complete review

Cereal bars can come in very handy if you are looking for a low calorie snack that is going to fill that gap until you enjoy your next meal. But cereal bars can vary greatly, some are moist, tempting and very moreish and others can be dry as a stick, very unappetising and leave you feeling extremely disappointed. Weetabix the company produce the ever popular wheat biscuit that we all know and love, crunchy bran flakes, the comparative new and far less exciting ( in my opinion ) Oatibix and a cereal that my nephew loves, Ready Brek. But naively I never realised that the Alpen cereal bars were made by the Weetabix company. There are four flavours in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Weetabix Alpen Light Chocolate & Orange: Alpen light - better as a treat than for breakfast (364 words)

I usually buy Kelloggs Nutrigrain cereal bars as a surrogate for breakfast. However, I saw an offer for Alpen Light Chocolate & Orange Cereal Bar at Tescos (£1.65 for 5 bars) and decided to try them out instead. Outer Packaging: The box is a smartly designed and coloured box, containing the 5 bars. The box is made from card and is recyclable. The Bar Wrapper: The bars are contained within a sealed foil wrapper which is easy to tear. The length of the wrapper is 15 cm, and the weight is 21 g. The graphics look quite good on the bar, with a blue mountain background and an appetizing looking chocolate and orange in the foreground. Also prominent ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review But I don't like Alpen! (584 words)

Now I have to admit that I have never had a liking for Alpen or any muesli type products come to that, so I was taking a bit of a risk when I picked up these Alpen Light Chocolate and Orange bars in Tesco. There was a good chance that I would take one bite, spit it out and that would be that and I would have wasted my money. On the other hand though... There was something on the attractive box (misty mountains against a blue sky with the glimmer of sunshine was the background!) that really caught my eye and was what was persuaded me, after much deliberations, to pick it up and buy it. There was a few words at the top of the pack stating: Fewer than ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Weetabix Alpen Light Chocolate & Orange: Light choco snacking (288 words)

I sit at my computer for most of the day. Up until about 18 months ago, I used to snack. When I say 'snack', I mean seriously eat crisps, chocolate, sweets. I think it was more out of boredom that need. Then I really needed to lose weight and cut out all bad food. That mid-morning need for a boost of energy though is still very important, so I started to eat cereal bars. The Alpen Light range are available in Asda and cost about £1.60 to £1.90 per box of 6 (could be a little cheaper). So I gave this choc and orange flavour a try. Per 100g you get; Protein 6.1g Carbohydrate 54.9g of which sugars 19.7g Fat 4.6g of which saturates ...  Read the complete review
