Advantages: Low in fat, nice texture

I sit at my computer for most of the day. Up until about 18 months ago, I used to snack. When I say 'snack', I mean seriously eat crisps, chocolate, sweets. I think it was more out of boredom that need. Then I really needed to lose weight and cut out all bad food. That mid-morning need for a boost of energy though is still very important, so I started to eat cereal bars. The Alpen Light range are available in Asda and cost about £1.60 to £1.90 per box of 6 (could be a little cheaper). So I gave this choc and orange flavour a try.

Per 100g you get;
Protein 6.1g
Carbohydrate 54.9g
of which sugars 19.7g
Fat 4.6g
of which saturates 1.6g
Fibre 24.6g
Sodium 0.22g (equivalent to 0.55g Salt)

Each bar is 21g so you get roughly a fifth of this in each bar. So the fat content is pretty low and the sugar content acceptable.

What I like about these bars is the texture. They are nice and firm whilst not being to hard. They are a little chewy, but do not get stuck in my teeth. The oats are pretty small too, so it is not rough on my throat. The flavour is really nice. There is not much chocolate in these, but they taste really chocolatey. The orange flavour is only just there... nowhere near as much as say a Terrys Chocolate Orange. They also seem to release the energy really slow. I have one around 11am and it lasts me through until 12.30 or 1pm easily.

I think these offer a reasonable value, nice taste and quite a healthy snack.
