Alpen bar Raspberry & Yogurt
(6 bars)
Like chocolate, yogurt is a fantastic addition to the otherwise plain cereal bars. The box which contains six 29g bars is available in Tesco for £1.98, and I think you can also find it in Asda and Sainsbury's for the same price, more or less. The six bars are individually wrapped, of course, and they come in a recyclable pink box.
As you unwrap a bar of these, you can recognize the strong and fantastic smell of raspberry. As you see in the picture, you can see in every bar, the pink raspberry bits, the yogurt coating, in addition to the cereals. As is the case with similar other Alpen bars, these are chewy and moist at the same time. They are sweet, but they also have the slightly acidic flavour of the raspberry bits. If you check the ingredients, you'll find that the source of this flavour is mainly from apples. While it contains 3.5% dried apples, it has only 0.8% freeze dried raspberry. Again, it contains 4.0% apple juice from concentrate, and only 0.5% raspberry juice from concentrate.
But what about the white coating? Is it really yogurt? Is it just me, or do you also think that the yogurt coating tastes like white chocolate? Well, at least we know for sure that the cereal bar is not just dipped/daunted in yogurt, but what is it made of? Well, milk yogurt powder is used in making this coating, and I don't know how they make it exactly, but it's so delicious.
Unfortunately, only some of the nutritional information is written on the box and single bars: the 29g bar gives you 121 calories, 1.6g protein, 21.3g carbohydrate, and 3.2g fat. If you want to read a full list of the nutritional information, the ingredients, and other useful information about this product, please check: < http://www.weetabix.co.uk/brands/alpen-bars/alpen- bar-raspberry-and-yogurt/ > and use the three tabs to view the info you want. This product contains wheat, oats, barely, milk, soya, sulphites, and possible traces of nuts. However, it's still suitable for vegetarians and each bar gives 0.9g fibre.
The other flavours with yogurt are:
1. Alpen bar Apple & Blackberry
2. Alpen bar Strawberry & Yogurt: This product is almost exactly like the one I reviewed with the exception of the main flavour. It comes in a red box, with red strawberry bits in each bar. It smells fantastic, tastes delicious, and it's chewy and moist exactly like the one with raspberry. I give it 5/5.
Summary: One of my favourite cereal bars.
