Advantages: Chocolate and cereal, full of vitamins
Disadvantages: None!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't often eat cereal for breakfast but that's because I don't normally eat breakfast. I simply don't have the time in the mornings and besides I don't normally get hungry until about 11 or 12am so I normally just have a cereal bar or some fruit midmorning. However when my husband & I went on holiday a little while ago we decided to make an effort to sit down and have breakfast in the mornings. I don't really like normal cereals as I find they are too plain and dull tasting so we decided to try Weetabix Minis Chocolate Crisp. Weetabix is meant to be healthy and chocolate chips sounded tasty so I thought they's be nice.
They cost £1.89 for a box of 450g from Tesco. That's fairly cheap compared to some cereals and I was happy to pay that for it. I should think that they are also available in lots of other major supermarkets as they are a very popular brand.
The box they come in is mainly yellow because of the wheat they are made form and it has a brown part at the bottom because of the chocolate. In the centre of the box the word Minis is written in huge blue letters and really does stand out. All around it there are pictures of Weetabix Minis flying outwards and a picture of one on a spoon to show you how big they are. The box also has the Weetabix logo on it. On the back are the ingredients and nutritional information.
I like to include the ingredients in my reviews because there are a lot of people out there who suffer from food allergies and I think that this is helpful to them. The ingredients of this cereal are:
Wholegrain Wheat (77%), Sugar, Plain Chocolate (13%) (Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin, Flavouring), Salt, Flavouring, Niacin, Iron, Thiamin (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Folic Acid
So as you can see this isn't full of nasty things, in fact it has 5 different vitamins in it! All of the Weetabix cereals are made of natural wheat so you know it's healthy. Plus this cereal contains wholegrain wheat and is high in fibre, everything you could really ask for from a good cereal plus it has chocolate!!
Each 36g serving contains:
Calories:
134kcal, 7% of your GDA
Sugar:
8.9g, 10% of your GDA
Fat:
1.9g, 3% of your GDA
Saturates:
1g, 5% of your GDA
Salt:
0.3g, 5% of your GDA
That is quite good for a breakfast cereal plus it is full of vitamins so you know that you're being healthy. Both my husband & I sat down to a bowl of this for our morning breakfast and there was plenty of cereal left in the box, according to the box it contains 12 servings of 36gs so these lasted us 6 days having a bowl each everyday.
Inside the box the cereal is in a plastic wrapper which keeps it nice and fresh, I really don't like stale cereal, unless you are going to eat this within a week then I suggest that you put it into an airtight container because although you can roll over the plastic and do up the box some air does still get in and after about a week they start to go soft.
I don't normally like Weetabix, I used to eat it a lot when I was a little kid and I got kind of put off it from eating it everyday for a few years so I tend to avoid it now. However because of the chocolate chips I was willing to try this one and I'm glad I did. I really do not like milk so although my husband happily added a load to his bowl I followed a tip I'd seen on the Weetabix website and added banana smoothie and sliced banana to mine instead. This not only stops you having to use milk but it also gives it a nice fruity taste.
Before you add milk the cereal is a light brown colour and have a rough texture to them which looks crunchy. In between the pieces of wheat you can see some little brown pieces which are the chocolate chips. After I'd added the banana smoothie the Weetabix got a lot softer and darker in colour. Now for the most important bit, the taste. The Weetabix is soft and slightly mushy, easy to eat but has some lovely hard little chocolate chips in it. You can really taste the whole grain wheat but instead of being plain and dull like the original version sometimes I, the flavour is spiced up (not literally) by the chocolate chips which give ot a nice sweet chocolate flavour. The banana slices I added to the top gave it a nice little bit of extra soft fruitiness and the banana smoothie made it even fruitier and is healthier than milk. I recommended the banana to my husband and he tried it and ended up using it instead of milk with me for the rest of the week, so try it you might like it.
Overall I think that this is a great cereal and has managed to convince me to make time for breakfast a lot more often as not only is it a healthy food but it has a lovely chocolate taste from the large quantity of chocolate chips in it. Plus I love they taste of it with bananas. 10 out of 10.
Summary: Try it with banana
