Advantages: Taste yummy; Wicked apple flavour
Disadvantages: They go stale quick
We buy these cakes quite a lot because they're always in the pound shop and they are very nice cakes that don't have as many calories as most other apple cakes.
They are made by Weight Watchers but have got a good flavour not like most of their cakes that haven't got much taste. The sponge is quite stodgy I think and fools you that you are not eating a diet cake and the apple puree they use in them makes them nice and sweet without tasting too much like sugar. I like the texture of the cakes because they are sponge with a thin layer of apple puree and the 2 flavours go good together.
There is a thin pastry base and that makes them seem more interesting because if the whole cake was dead soft then I reckon it would be boring. The crumble on the top is really just pastry that has been crumbled up a bit but it's still solid not like a proper crumble. There is sugar and a few oats on the top and that helps them taste sweet and I reckon if you are on a diet then this is the sort of thing you should look for because eating this makes you forget your sweet tooth for a bit.
The taste of apple is quite strong in them even though there isn't a lot of apple puree in the cakes and there's also the flavour on cinnamon and that helps them taste like a proper apple crumble because apple and cinnamon always go well together. I like the way the sponge tastes a bit like apple as well and I think the over all flavour of the cakes is definately like apple crumble even though it's a bit fake tasting.
You get 6 cakes in a box and they are quite a bit smaller than Mr KIpling cakes but they are for dieters so thats to be expected I suppose but it's still a bit annoying for people like me who aren't on a diet and wanted a nice big cake! You are better off to eat 2 at a time anyway because they go stale very fast once you've opened the box so if there's just you eating them then you'll have to find a way to keep them fresh.
