Advantages: Good sized portion

Disadvantages: Not a particularly pleasant taste

I'm not on a Weight Watchers programme, and never have been, but I'm always tempted to try new products that claim to be lower fat/cals. This is partially because I think most of the branded products either taste like poop and/or are a total rip-off. These mousses unfortunately will be added to my list of avoidances, which is a shame because they looked so delicious and tempting.

I came across these Weight Watchers mousses in Tesco last week, and after walking past them 3 days in a row I decided to give into temptation. I was reluctant to buy them at first as a pack of two costs 99p, and I've bought Tesco's own make mousses before at under 80p for a pack of 6. These ones are larger though, and look very appealing, as you can see by the picture.

They can be found in the chiller section next to other yoghurts, chilled desserts and mousses. I don't think these are popular enough to feature in all supermarkets, but I would imagine most big supermarkets like Tesco and Asda should stock them if my local, slightly rubbish, Tesco's does.

The mousses come in two plastic pots, kept together by a cardboard sleeve. The cardboard has a picture of a spoon with the mousse on, which looks soft, fluffy and pretty. I'm a sucker when it comes to the prettiness of new products, and I must admit it was probably the pattern of the vanilla mousse on top of the Belgian mousse that tempted me. Like other chilled items, these have a use-by date of a couple of weeks and will need to be kept refridgerated.

Each plastic pot is 80g, and has a foil lid that you peel off. For those that follow Weight Watchers, these are 2 points each. Each mousse has 106 calories and 2.3g fat (1.8g saturated) which is quite good for a decent portion size. These are simply mousse; the majority is Belgian chocolate and the top is vanilla flavoured mousse, forming a pretty pattern where the vanilla is added on top.

How do they taste? Unfortunately not as good as they look. They are quite light and fluffy, though not as much as I had expected. The vanilla wasn't as sweet as I had expected and tasted more like eating a vanilla-scented candle than a fluffy mousse. As for the Belgian chocolate, again this didn't taste as I had expected and was instead quite dull, and slightly harsh and bitter in flavour. It's best to mix the two up, or get rid of the vanilla altogether as I found it to taste quite sickly. The mousse overall wasn't sickly because it was rich, chocolatey and sweet, but because it just didn't taste very nice. I can't quite explain how it tasted, other than slightly bitter and tacky.

I've previously written a review for Tesco Light Mousse, which I love, and would recommend those over the Weight Watchers mousses any day. Unfortunately, although these look tasty and quite large for a healthy dessert option, they really don't taste as good as I had hoped. Others may disagree with me, but this is one I personally wouldn't recommend and wont be buying again.

Summary: A disappointing mousse that I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on
