When we think of "Weight watchers," we probably think of people who are trying to lose weight by eating gruesome distasteful food, those that fulfil never-ending exercise regimes and those that just don't eat (I don't suggest). You may even think to the Little Britain character Marjorie Dawes and her hilarious ''Fat fighters" club. But really, weight watchers is a company introduced in the mid 1800s offering numerous tasty products to help those lose a bit of weight. It is also a company which will give you advice on how to lose weight, by taking into account your height, age etc. Therefore it gives the company a more personal touch; they are not just setting a norm for you to follow but adapting it to suit it to you. This is one of the most respected dieting brands, as it not only helps you lose weight, but it also does so in a way that is not as damaging as methods like the Atkins diet.

◦●◦●& #9702;● Packaging ●◦●◦&# 9679;◦

The Double Chocolate Chip Cookies are one of their more appealing products, as they layout and presentation of it all really is quite mouth-watering. The packaging has 3 main colours; blue red and white which contrast well to provide an attractive background. There is a picture of a couple of their finer made cookies on the front which really make you think you're going to eat something ''naughty'' along with two segments of chocolate which emphasise that this dietary product contains ingredients we love to have, but rarely can afford to as it is pretty unhealthy. In addition to all this, on the front there is also included the logo of Weight Watchers which makes us remember this when we go to buy more dietary food and the bold font of double choc chip cookies to really make it stand and easily readable from a distance.

On the sides of the boxes there is basically just a summary of all we have seen on the front, in less detail and less appealing. It really is just gap-filling. Then at the back the nutritional information is included, this is especially important when you are making sure this product is really trying to help you cut down your weight. Per 100g these include: 1947Kj ensuring that you maintain a lot of energy with less food, there is 463Kcal which could easily be worked off with a 20-30 minute period on the cycling machine or rowing machine. There are minimal levels of protein and fat at only a combined total of 22.4g. However there is a reasonable amount of carbohydrate at 71.5g which is effective in making sure you can fulfil activities during the day.

Inside the box, it is plain with merely the "6 individually wrapped portions of 2 cookies included." This is simple, but fulfils its purpose of reassuring the consumer that their product is not just the usual mass produced item, but they have actually put in the effort to help the cookies stay fresh, edible and tasty.

◦●◦●& #9702;● The cookies ●◦●◦&# 9679;◦

Now, onto the actual cookies themselves. The ones on the front of the box can be quite misleading..they look so tasty and well made, whereas the ones inside are actually crumbly. As soon as I opened the packaging and quickly took out the biscuits I thought that the presentation of the cookies was excellent and I couldn't wait to try one. However, here was where the disappointment lay. The cookies at first did not really smell of anything and so I did not gain an insight into what I would taste by holding it up to my nose. So I took a bite, the hard cookie meant that a certain amount of effort had to be put into cutting into smaller pieces and so the calorie burning had already begun! The taste, to be honest, wasn't as I expected it to be. There is only a faint taste of the chocolate hidden inside and the product generally tasted dry and unappetising.

You would expect a "good" biscuit to crumble away in your mouth and then have the chocolate melt away. From the image on the front you would also expect perfection with the creation of the cookies, however neither of these are in place and so I cannot say this is a worthwhile product. When people are taking diets, they are not really going to be eating their preferred food, yet this product is willing to mislead them into believing they can taste delicious products whilst not putting on the pounds. This is not the case as I would never choose to eat these on a regular basis and after tasting it, would not look forward to trying it again.

To get a comparative view of this product, I compared it to the "Montana chocolate chip cookies" which are not advisable dietary products. These are probably presented a little poorly with the cheap plastic packaging. However, what they lack in appearance they make up in taste. The cookies break away a lot easier and the sugary taste really sweetens it up and enhances the chocolaty taste. The chocolate is more apparent here even though it isn't "Double choc" like the weight watchers one and will also fill you up slightly more easily.

◦●◦●& #9702;● Interview ◦●◦●&# 9702;●◦

I am not actually on a diet myself..(though I can be seen with diet coke often) and so feel for this review to be more useful to you, the reader, I have interviewed my mother, asking her a variety of questions of her own opinion of the cookies.

Me: Hi Mum, I'm just going to ask you a couple of questions on the product you bought, "Weight watchers double choc chip cookies.''
Mum: Ok, fire away.

Me: Firstly, what did you think of the taste?
Mum: Hmm, I'd say that the taste is fairly nice, you can taste the chocolate in it but not enough. This just means I have to keep eating more to make up for it! Other than the little bits of chocolate it was pretty bland.

Me: What about the packaging, is it attractive?
Mum: Yes, I'd say it certainly attracted me to buy it, though it doesn't really need a box just for a few cookies. I could live with just a normal packaging really.

Me: So do you think this is really helping you lose weight?
Mum: On its own, it definitely wouldn't. You have to mix it in with a few exercises each day to really lose weight. I've lost a couple of pounds in the last week but I won't credit these biscuits for all my hard work!

Me: Do you think it is a good alternative to diets like the Atkins diet?
Mum: Yes, definitely. Although the Atkins takes into effect quicker this provides us with a less extreme method of cutting weight whilst also enjoying a nice product. There are many health risks associated with these diets, whereas this is just a different safe method of cutting down.

Me: Overall what would you give it out of 10?
Mum: It would have to be around 6 or 7 out of 10. Did this help?
Me: Yes thanks Mum, bye..

◦●◦●& #9702;● Price ●◦●◦&# 9679;◦

These products can be found in a variety of places. Your local shops should supply them at around 80p, anything more than that and you're being ripped off. This is a fairly decent price seeing as you receive 12 cookies in total, however for their taste I would say these should only be worth around 50p. The packaging is nice to look at, but to be fair, it is unneeded.. you will just throw it away after use and it adds an additional 10 or 12p to overall price. Whereas the usual plastic is used on other cookies and take less time to open.

◦●◦●& #9702;● Overall ●◦●◦&# 9679;◦

This could be a marketing scheme to really help you lose weight. You see the delicious product on the image and you think "oh I've missed you so much" but when you taste it, you find disappointment and therefore are put off tasting your preferred food. However, I think they have really tried to adjust their products so that even those who are trying to lose weight can enjoy the "naughty" food they would not traditionally have eaten to lose weight. The pricing of the product is satisfactory; it is neither a waste of money nor is it value for money. Therefore I would certainly not recommend this product to anyone not on a diet, but I may consider recommending it to those trying to lose weight. Firstly though, I would suggest that they just eat a balanced diet and do the following:

• Go for a 30 minute jog as soon as you wake up in the morning. Don’t be afraid to run around your local park, just think of how much good you’ll be doing for your body.
• Try setting up FARTLEK training, where you alternate walking, running, jogging and sprinting. The length or time can be adjusted according to the training programme.

OR: You don’t necessarily need to lose weight; it really is up to you whether or not you think you are carrying too many pounds. Those that have busy lives and don’t have the time to exercise regularly may find these types of products more useful as it cuts down your weight with minimal effort.

I hope you have enjoyed my review of the Weight Watchers Double Choc Chip Cookies,

Summary: Cookies designed to help you lose weight with a bland taste.
