Advantages: tast great, low calories
Disadvantages: none!
I constantly seem to be on a quest to lose weight these days and as a consequence I am often on the look out for nice little sweet treats which I can enjoy but won't have a too devastating effect on my weight! Just recently I found myself buying a packet of WeightWatchers double choc chip cookies and I have to say that I am now quite hooked.
I am not writing this review though as someone who has wholeheartedly embraced the WeightWatchers weight loss approach. If you want, you can sign up and attend meetings and follow their weight loss plans which are all based on a points system, which I understand, means you can enjoy the odd glass of wine or dessert. I am just someone who likes to count calories and therefore am interested in some of the WeightWatchers products. If you want to find out more about WeightWatchers generally, you can visit

Now on to the biscuits themselves. They come in quite an attractive packet with an enticing picture on the front of a number of the cookies. I have to say that the actual cookies themselves do not look quite like these on the picture, perhaps not so chocolate laden, but they also do look very appealing! Inside the packet, you discover six portions, individually wrapped, each containing two cookies. This is quite good because not only does the individual wrapping maintain the cookies' freshness, it also stops you from just reaching for that third biscuit, because of course, by doing that you would have to break into another portion!
Obviously, when you are trying to lose weight, you are most interested in the calorie or fat values. On the back of the packet, you learn that for one portion (which of course is actually two biscuits) there are 97 calories and 3.8 grams of fat of which 1.4 grams is saturates. I am a calorie counting person myself so I am quite pleased to discover that I can eat not only one but two biscuits for less than 100 calories out of my daily allowance. In WeightWatcher language, one portion is equal to one and a half points!
So what do they taste like - because there is no point buying them to try and lose weight if you don't want to eat them in the first place! Well in my opinion, they do actually taste quite delicious! Not quite on a par with Maryland chocolate chip cookies, but not far off! There is quite a strong taste of cocoa which, in my opinion, gives a slightly bitter taste. I prefer this as I am not keen on biscuits which are too sweet. There is also quite a strong oaty taste - I wondered at first whether I was imagining this, until I checked on the ingredients and discovered that there were in fact oat flakes in them. There are some chocolate chips but these are quite small and insignificant. I suppose that if they were bigger then we would be looking at higher calories and fat content so I guess you can't have it all!
The cookies are quite hard in texture - very crunchy to bite into! As I prefer a slightly softer biscuit, I have to confess that I get over this by dunking them in my coffee and they really are excellent dunking biscuits. Because they are that bit harder to start with, it means that you can soak them a little bit longer in the tea or coffee with no danger of it all disintegrating and finding dregs at the bottom of the cup! And the actual mixture of coffee and cookie is lovely!
So overall, I think that this is a pretty good biscuit to buy as a treat when you are attempting to lose weight! The taste is good, the calories are low, and at Sainsburys you can buy a packet of six portions (twelve biscuits) for only 75 pence which doesn't seem bad at all!
Summary: An enjoyable snack for people watching their weight!
