Advantages: Quick meal idea.
Disadvantages: Price, Bland Taste
Both my partner and I enjoy cooking a meal from scratch in the kitchen and that includes cooking sauces sometimes though you just need a standby in the cupboard for a quick meal.
I spotted the Weightwatchers range of sauces in Asda in the aisle with all the other cooking sauces and for £1.28 per jar now bear in mind that this only serves 2 people, ok if there are just 2 of you trying to lose weight but for the family you would probably need two jars.
On the shelf was the Sweet and Sour sauce with babycorn, looked tasty so it went into the basket.
The sauce itself is in a tall narrow jar exactly like the picture and contains 350g so half a jar is a serving for one person and would equal 1 points which really really good.
The sauce is a deep red colour and you can clearly see the bits of babycorn, red peppers and pineapple in the sauce.

The jar does state that this is suitable for vegetarians but the product may contain traces of nuts.
Water, Tomato Purée, Sugar, Carrot, Red Pepper (4.7%), Onion, Baby Sweetcorn (4.7%), Maize Starch, Spirit Vinegar, Pineapple (2.8%), Pineapple Juice from Concentrate, Lemon Juice from Concentrate, Salt, Ginger, Colour: Paprika Extract, Black Pepper
*~*Nutritional Information*~
Per 175g the values are:-
362kj Energy
1.1g Protein
20.1g Carbohydrates
0.1g Fat
0.0g of which is saturates
0.4g Fibre
0.40g Sodium
Personally I like to know the nutritional information before I buy a product as on weightwatchers if it is not already calculated in points then you can work this out to see if it is an option for you.
The sauce is just poured over vegetables, chicken, pork or prawns and simmered gently until all the ingredients are cooked, usually for about 20 minutes or so.
*~*My Opinion*~*
I will be honest and say that this sauce is not the best and if you are not on a diet then I would say opt for the full fat version if you want to sample something that tastes like it has been prepared in the restaurant.
The sauce is tasty don't get me wrong but you could probably find a version on the internet that would taste better than this and still be fairly low in points.
I won't buy this product again even though it is low in points as neither my partner or I enjoyed it and vowed to stick to making our own or buying a better brand like Blue Dragon which would contain a few more points.
We used this sauce with some thin pork steaks and the meal was really disappointing, there was not really a sweet and sour taste to the sauce it just had a very strong taste of tomatoes and a lack of chinese flavouring.
This sauce tastes bland and really has something lacking, I have made a recipe from scratch from the weight watchers cook books before now and got better results.
The sauce has a thin watery consistency which really put me off when the food was cooking, although there were peppers, babycorn and pineapple in it, we added more fresh pineapple and mushrooms and this seemed to improve the taste.
Summary: Check out other alternatives instead.

mummy2harry - 09/04/08 In a food review, you need to have a bit more about the taste, as you've only just skimmed over it and not gone into any detail. Taste is probably the most important part of a food review!
