Advantages: Very very tasty, creamy and smooth apart from the crisp meringue., A taste sensation!!
Disadvantages: Calories, calories, calories
I have to say I love a really good, top quality ice-cream and my favorite used to be Haagen Dazs but not any more. Apart from the fact Haagen Dazs is really expensive I have found my local Tesco’s only stock about 4 flavours, I like a good selection and I have found Yorkshire Dales Ice-Cream to be rather nice!! There is loads of flavours to choose from and on strolling around my local Tesco’s a few months back I just happened to find myself in the ice-cream isle! Not sure how that happened as I was on my way to look for frozen pea’s. Anyway I had a little look through the Yorkshire Dale selection and decided to choose Raspberry Pavlova. The tub informed me that it is made up of : Old fashioned luxury dairy ice-cream with juicy raspberries and meringue pieces – mmmmmmmmmmmm I am usually a chocolate fanatic when it comes to puddings but I fancied a change and this is sooooooo worth it. I hid this under the frozen pea’s (which I did remember to get after the ice-cream) at the bottom of my freezer – just to make sure I actually got to eat some of it. When all was quiet and I had an hour to myself I ventured into the kitchen and rescued my ice-cream from the frozen depths of it’s frozen prison. I promptly left it unattended (not recommended if there are other people about) on the bench for a few minutes so it would be easy to scoop out and be devoured. So times up and I’m in there like a shot – upon opening the 1 litre tub I found it had a piece of what I think was wax paper hiding the precious ice-cream, this was easily removed and licked (I hate waste) then hastily shoved into the bin. The few minutes on the bench have made it easy for me to scoop out loads of ice-cream without any effort at all – which is probably not so good as it means I can scoop out twice as much as I would have if I’d not left it on the bench but hey
my thighs don’t mind a little extra fat, yummy!! So ice-cream in bowl and spoon in hand I go into the living room and settle on the couch to watch Frasier. Perfect combination if you ask me. Scrumptious ice-cream and a top show to boot. So now for the taste sensation – my first spoon full goes down a treat. It looks a bit like raspberry ripple but is far superior in flavour. The vanilla ice-cream surrounding the raspberries and meringue is so luxurious and smooth – not like cheap vanilla at all. Sort of rich and creamy but not sickly so – it has a nice colour to it too. Sort of an off white colour, there is also a distinct, yet subtle taste of vanilla. Then the raspberries give a burst of flavour – they actually taste like real raspberries and not just sweet goo you get from cheaper ice- creams. Then I hit upon a piece of meringue, yummy. Still crispy and not at all soggy like you’d expect from a frozen dessert. So I try combining all three – vanilla ice-cream, raspberries and meringue. Well all I can say is WOW. There’s also a swirl of raspberry’s puree throughout the tub so you get a good all round flavour of raspberry – which is why I bought it in the first place. Well worth those forbidden calories if you ask me – my mouth is watering just thinking of it. If you haven’t heard of Yorkshire Dales Ice-Cream before then you really should try it – it’s available at Tesco’s – Safeway, Asda and it even has it’s own little website which is worth a visit, just to torment yourself if you have a sweet tooth like mine. The web address is www.yorkshire-dales-ice-cream.co.uk – you’ll find a lot of different flavours to choose from and they also do a few other things too. If you join there website they will send you details of new products – offers – competitions and money off coupons!! So its wor
th sighing up just for the coupons if you ask me. I pay around £2.50 for a litre tub which if you compare to Haagen Dazs is pretty good value for money. Haagen Dazs is £3.69 for a 500ml tub in Tesco so I only buy it when it’s on offer (which isn’t very often these days). For anyone who is on a diet then you really want to skip this bit as its about the calories: NUTRITIONAL IMFORMATION!! Typical values Per 100ml as consumed Energy – 499kj/119kcals Protein – 2.2g Carbohydrate – 18.3g FAT!!!!! – 4.0g So its not the most fattening on the market but it will do your thighs no favours believe me, lol. I love this and mostly all of the other flavours I’ve tried with the exception of the coffee one – I hate coffee flavoured ice-cream. I like to have this with cake – in a cone – on its own – with some chocolate crumbled over the top – I also like to crumble McVities Hob Nobs over it and devour it that way. I don’t think there is a bad way to eat this ice-cream, its soooo lovely. If your still here after my rant then, cheers and thank you for reading – I hope I have convinced you to try it.
