L'Occitane Eau d'Iparie Eau de Toilette
by dawnymarie
L'Occitane En Provence - Eau d'Iparie (Eau de Toilette)
What attracted me to this one?...
I like the ethics and philosophy of this brand. They do not test on animals and use quality ingredients. This means that I have been attracted to this premium brand for some time. Unlike the skin care range I find the ... fragrances are competitively priced and manage to gain them as treats as often as I can. On one such occasion I was drawn straight to this fragrance due to the traditional style bottle. Once I saw the reference to incense I was very intrigued and requested a spray. There was no need to look any further once the notes appeared. I was in love. Again!
Eau D'Iparie (Eau de Toilette)...
Purchased straight from the shelf this fragrance was packed away in a gorgeous gift bag along with samples, coloured paper and a spray of something nice. The experience in a L'Occitane store is quite a treat - free herbal tea whilst you browse and professional but warm & friendly staff.
The bottle is beautiful. Traditionally styled and with a quality, unique appearance. L'Occitane have an eye for detail and the finishing touches make a purchase all that more special. As this was a birthday treat off my husband it was very fitting.
Eau D' Notes...
Top Note - Red pepper & Rose.
Eau D'Iparie arouses the senses initially with a subtle burst of rose. The red pepper sits along with it but doesn't steal the show. For around ten minutes the top notes play around with my nose and it is gorgeous. I am not a great fan of rose but this is different and not at all synthetic. It delights me.
Middle Note - Patchouli & cyste labdanum.
I love patchouli so whenever I see it included in a perfume I am interested to see if the mix in notes works and appeals. It is sometimes overly strong and I hoped that would not be so in this one. I am not aware of the middle notes immediately after the top have faded, they seem to build up over the following few minutes and are wonderfully rich when they do arrive. Once again, no synthetic nature to this fragrance. The journey so far has been quality in every way. I have not experienced cyste labdanum before trying this fragrance and would not have known about it's fine aroma which smells exotic. Mixed with the gorgeous sensual patchouli it produces an eastern experience and I like it very much. Once again this isn't overpowering or headache inducing, a good job as I really can't tolerate very strong perfumes. I would say this sensual and evocative part of the journey lasts a good few hours and is still evident when the base notes emerge.
Base Note - Myrrh, incense, vanilla & moss.
First off I normally cannot tolerate vanilla notes in anything other than ice cream. It is one of those smells that will guarantee a headache. Not so with this one. Not at all. In fact for the first time ever I actually enjoyed and tolerated it. The base notes mingle and sit with the middle ones for quite some time - or maybe I just want to be able to detect the patchouli for as long as I possibly can, it is possible. The fact is that the base notes are blended effortlessly and sit wonderfully with the patchouli, though the cyste labdanum is not as prominent. I can't say that I can pick out the moss, though among the sensual and captivating fragrance there is an earthy element which I can only guess at being the moss. I can definitely smell the incense and myrrh but not as you would expect. Maybe you are imaging this fragrance smelling of an incense stick? As did I before I had my sample spray - I was drawn to it as I do like incense sticks but I didn't want a perfume that replicated it. This does not smell like that. It is noticed by everyone when I wear it. Women of all ages and they love it. I had it on one day and kept wondering what the beautiful smell was that was in my home until I realised it was my fragrance. I can not normally smell a fragrance on myself hours after spraying it on but this one is detectable 7 hours later. Granted, it is not as noticeable as it is earlier in the day but I think that is impressive from one application to my neck and wrists.
I feel mysterious, sensual and desirable when I wear Eau d'lparie. It oozes that fine fragrance quality but this one has no synthetic leanings - this is a very clean and natural aroma that evokes images of the east without being overpowering or overly rich. I don't know how L'Occitane manage to get their fragrances to sit like they do as I have five others and they are all subtle yet noticeable and beautifully blended.
Eau d'lparie is impressive in an understated way. It captivates and demands attention but for all the right reasons. It is sensual at the same time as being classy - from a fine house of fragrance. In my opinion it is beautiful and it makes me feel beautiful. It lends itself to either day or night and if you spray in the morning it will still be evident in the evening. It obviously appeals to all ages from my experience of females wanting to know what I am wearing. It's my favourite by L'Occitane.

It is very easy for me to recommend this captivating fragrance. I have tried five other perfumes by L'Occitane and very much like them all but this one is my favourite. Whenever I wear it I get compliments after being hounded for what it is and where you get it from! The lasting power is very impressive as I can still smell it on myself at the end of the day and that is unusual in my experience. The journey through the notes is almost magical and always a treat. The patchouli is evident even when the base notes push through and that pleases me. L'Occitane have chosen fragrances that sit very well together and blend well - there is nothing fighting for attention, every so often a wave of one of them will just peak above another - beautiful. At £37.00 for 75ml in a chic bottle this is a competitive price from a boutique that offers fine products. L'Occitane have attractive ethics and philosophy.

Chloe Narcisse Eau de Toilette
by HelenDK
This Karl Lagerfelds perfume Chloe Narcisse is a lovely fragrant perfume and has been around since 1992. I particularly like the scent of vanilla, and this perfume has base notes vanilla, sandalwood, absolut musk, Tolu Bsalm and appealed to me instantly. Its described as also having the floral features of daffodil, marigold, range ... blossum, pineapple, peach and violets with middle notes of rose, jasmine, gardenia, carnation and spice.
Comes in 30, 50 and 100ml bottles. 100ml from Amazon will set you back EDT £18.95 but can be brought from many online sites as well as in the high street, so its definitely worth researching the best price. The 100ml bottle can also be purchased in a gift set with a 200ml body lotion online for about £25.
It comes in a pink flowery box, the perfume bottle is pretty and could even be described as elegant with a flower petal lid.
This is another perfume that I always like to have on my dressing table, it is one that I often get complimented on its aroma and I would class it as a too nice for work fragrance. It also seems to have enough staying power for the day.
I'm going to give this perfume 5/5 as it's friday, Bank holiday weekend and I really like it. Read the complete review |

David Beckham: Instinct, Eau de Toilette
by Mrb84
I was bought this Eau De Toilette by my work for Christmas. It is not something I have ever smelt before and although I don't tend to go for a brand from a celebrity I have realised that I like this and use it often.
Looking on Amazon it looks as though this is a good price at the moment. For 75ml it is marked down from £30 to ... £13.94 that is real good value for money.
Packaging
This bottle is a spray one which I prefer to those that you have to splash on mainly because I find spraying it directly to my neck is much more convenient and faster, I also think it means that you use less. The bottle is not spectacular in design and I'm OK with that sometimes I wonder if we pay sky high prices just because someone has spent years designing a fancy bottle. This is just a glass bottle with a silver lid and a black label on the front. It's understated, not like the Beckhams really! I think it's a fine design for a male EDT.
Using
I use two sprits of this in the morning, I apply it in my neck area although I have found it lasts longer if it is on clothing rather than skin so spray it when I have my shirt on so it catches on the material and lasts longer. It's cold against skin but has no effect skin wise. The smell is not pungent or over the top but quite casual and light it is the kind of smell you can have whilst at work or when casual. I first smell quite a fruity citrus smell and this is followed by warm spices.
Opinion
This is not a Eau De Toilette that I would have smelt in the shop mainly because I would have thought it would have been over priced and over hyped just because it carries the Beckham name but I was pleasantly surprised when I was bought it and tried it. The smell is a casual one, not too over-bearing. Mrs B says she likes this fragrance on me because it isn't too spicy, a lot of my aftershaves are 'too manly' in her opinion whereas this is not too heavily spiced. I don't think it has a feminine smell to it at all so think it's a good balance.
It doesn't last as long as I would like it too which is the only downside. It does last several hours but it doesn't last the whole day which is what I would like it to do considering I wear this to work, I want to smell like this when I return too but the staying power isn't the best.
Apart from it's lack of staying power I struggle to criticise this. It's a good item to give as a gift because it isn't too strong a smell so it should suit lots of people and the bottle is a good design for a man to have too. I'm pleased I was bought this, I like the smell and think it's one which is great for casual wear whilst at work, I use different ones when it's evening and special occasions but this is more for casual wear.
As for the price I think it's a bargain, you'd expect something with the Beckham brand to be more expensive but not this! Read the complete review |
