Joop Jump Aftershave
by pmcds
As a brand name, Joop is something I have always liked. I usually use the regular sweet smelling red Joop, and have done throughout University. My mother hates it, my wife hates it, and it brings out my hayfever, so I rarely use it now. However, I am trying out new smells, as it were, and keen to keep with the quality I have experienced ... with Joop, I thought I'd try out this Jump version. You're looking at around the £25 mark for a 50ml bottle, although it's always good to wait until the sales as it can get reduced quite a bit.
The smell as you first open the bottle is a bit more dainty and floral than the regular Joop, without any of the sweetness you may have experienced before. I was surprised by this, as I thought that this would remain as a trait of the brand name. This was the first surprise. As you spray it, there's a bit more of a fruitiness to it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. It was very fresh smelling, and I liked it. However, a smell isn't great unless you love it when you're used to it, and there's a big difference in liking something the first time and liking it when you wear it constantly.
After wearing it for a while, these initial scents wore off, and I was left with a muskier scent, very subtle yet manly, and it was a bit alien to me. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but as I wore it a few times, I stopped noticing it, and every now and then I'd get a whiff of it very faintly if I made a sudden movement or was a bit more active. People did comment on it, asking with an air of curiosity that I wasn't sure if it was in a good way or a bad one. I think it just smelled a bit different is all.
It lasts quite well, and one thing I noticed was that the subtle element was there all the way through the day. Even as I got into bed with friction against the sheets as I curled up for the night, I noticed the smell. I was worried that I wouldn't like it in the long run but wouldn't be able to get rid of it. My clothes still had the smell on them as well, but there was still a bit of the fruitiness on there as well, which I quite liked.
After a while I easily got used to it, and quite liked the smell. The big test was my wife, and she quite likes it as well. It's fresher than the regular Joop, which is much more suited to the clubbing teen/student than me, a married 30-something for whom clubbing has taken a back seat. I think this is a great fragrance to move onto once you're done with trying to be younger than you are, and this subtle yet lingering pleasantly fragrant and light eau de toilette is one I definitely would recommend. I try not to wear it too often, as I think you can become overly saturated with one smell and your senses just get fed up with it, so I use it sparingly and make sure I keep a bottle handy.
So, one I highly recommend. Refreshing, both as you apply it and when it's been there for a while, it provides a more mature option to the red Joop, which is much more for younger night owls. A little secret though: there's still half a bottle of the red stuff in my cabinet, and it still gets used on rare occasions............. Read the complete review |

Joop Homme Aftershave
by l500589
Joop Homme, Aftershave first came to my attention some 14 years ago as a present from my parents. At the time I really liked it, and I used to wear a splash of it for work each day. After a few years of wearing it, I did become a little annoyed at it, the reason being that this aftershave has a very sweet, strong and unique scent that ... can get a bit sickly after a while.
Joop! Was invented by a German fashionist named Wolfgang Joop - which kind of tells you how it got it's unusual name.
The scent is officially described by Joop as 'The first burst of cool, fresh spiciness from bergamot and cinnamon unfolds into a subtle, warm floral woody body'.
To me, now that I have matured a little bit from my younger days when I used to regularly wear Joop, I would describe it as a very feminine scent, verging on that of a female perfume, mainly due to the very, VERY sweet scent. I have actually known a woman who used to wear Joop from time to time!
One thing to remember when applying this aftershave, is that it is very strong, and so it only takes a tiny amount to to give off a sweet strong scent that will last for days!
This aftershave definitely has a very 'woody' feel to it, and it can become a little overbearingly heavy if too much is applied. The dark and musty fragrance does in-fact irritate me a little bit nowadays, and makes me feel a little itchy.
Joop is a dark purple / pinky colour solution, and the colour is easily visible through the clear glass bottle in which Joop is packaged.
In terms of price, Joop generally retails at approx £20:00 - £25:00 for a 75ml aftershave, but can often be picked up on special offer for around the £17:00 - £18:00 region.
Joop have also sinced launced Joop Go and Joop Jump, which are also very brightly coloured fragrances, but the scents of both are a little bit calmer and less obvious than the original.
My Overall Opinion:
Overall I still like a little bit of Joop from time to time (which is a good job really, as my parents still buy it for me at Christmas!). The smell is very overpowering, and so it is important to only use this in very small amounts. The scent lasts for a very long time, and so for around £20:00, a bottle of this stuff can last for years if used correctly in moderation, and so is very good value in my opinion. . . . .
Thanks for reading

Calvin Klein Euphoria Men Aftershave
by Apple_Review
I am quite a fan of Calvin Klein, having always bought their merchandise when younger. As well as their 'Crave' brand, which I looked into and purchased a few years back, I tried out this Euphoria aftershave too. The Crave variety is really summery with quite a light and fruity scent, so it may be more appropriate for this time of year. ... However, like this Euphoria aftershave, it doesn't have great staying power and isn't especially nice.
The Euphoria aftershave comes in a cuboid maroon colour box. The Euphoria logo is to the top right, indicating it is indeed for men just to avoid confusion! The Calvin Klein logo is situated in the bottom left on the front side. The bottle itself is 100ml in volume. I'd like to point out that this is an aftershave as opposed to an eau de toilette for example, meaning it's naturally not of as 'good quality' as an eau de toilette mainly meaning it will not last as long on your skin.
The bottle is quite unique. It's in a glass bottle with rounded corners at the top and a matt silver lid. The aftershave inside has a slight golden tint and has the same text as on the box. The silver cap lifts off to reveal the spray. It does work well and sprays out a nice even layer. However, getting to the end of this aftershave now, it is quite difficult to spray out the last remains! I find myself looking for where the plastic tube from the spray mechanism lies, and trying to tilt the bottle to get the remaining aftershave to the open end of the tube to spray it out! It can sting a bit after a shave as it does contain alcohol - also may not be ideal if you have just cut yourself!
As for the aroma, it is certainly unique but one I have grown bored of compared to other aftershaves I own. It's quite oriental with a slight spicy and even floral scent to it, although maintaining it's masculinity. Some of the ingredients include ginger pepper cocktail, black basil, cedar leaf and 'creamy suede'. You can't really imagine much from these names, but I can say it's quite a light and fresh scent, with an oriental feel to it.
As for lasting power, it certainly could be better. It radiates quite nicely from myself after applying it, but an hour or so later it will die off quite a bit, and only if someone was licking my neck might they notice it! Well I wouldn't say it's that bad, but it certainly dies down quickly. Because of this, I tend to put 3-4 sprays on, and might too spray my wrists (it's all about the pulse points).
As for attire, I would say this aftershave should go with casual attire. It could perhaps fit a casual attire on a summer's evening when you're going out for a meal. I'm sure it's not the most widely known scent and it isn't that rich, so wearing it clubbing wouldn't really work! You can purchase a 100ml bottle for around £30 online. This isn't actually very cheap considering it's not an eau de toilette but you are paying for the name - Calvin Klein, too! Overall I'd recommend trying it out but wouldn't say it's really worth buying - perhaps a mistake I made back in the day! Read the complete review |
