Oscar de La Renta Oscar Summer Dew Eau de Toilette
by kama0529
A friend of mine bought me a bottle of Oscar de la Renta's "Oscar Summer Dew" as a thank you for looking after their dog "Oscar" when they were on holiday. Obviously I had heard of Oscar de la Renta, but I wasn't even aware of the fact that he did fragrances and so certainly hadn't heard of this particular perfume ... before. However, I think the reason for picking this particular fragrance for me was the sentiment of the name.
This perfume comes in a pleasant enough bottle which is pretty and colourful, but equally isn't particularly striking or as outrageous as so many of the bottles of perfume on the market today. I have to admit that I am sucker for a gorgeous looking bottle that could compete for a place in a Tate gallery! Having said that, this bottle is perfectly fine....but just simple and basic. It is a lovely purple / lilac colour with the name "Oscar" scrawled in the centre of the bottle in a gold handwriting font. Their is a pull on / push off lid which covers the spray nozzle. The bottle contains 100mls of the eau de toilette spray.
As I said, this was a present for me, but for the purposes of writing this review I have looked up how much it costs. I have seen it being sold on Amazon.co.uk for £47.00 - which seems about middle of the road in price terms for designer perfumes. It is usually a price I would be willing to pay for a decent perfume - but I think in terms of this particular perfume I think it may be a little more than I would be willing to shell out.
The eau de toilette is delivered in spray form by a nozzle. The nozzle delivers a generous amount of spray and I have found that just one spray on my neck and one spray on my wrists is perfect to get the right amount of fragrance delivered. The spray is delivered in a fine mist and so a little covers a fairly wide area.
The fragrance of the Oscar Summer Dew is, as the name would suggest, quite summery. It is fairly light and delicate and is certainly not overpowering. This isn't the type of perfume that I would wear if I wanted to make a statement because it is fairly non-descript, but if I wanted to just smell "nice" then this is the type of perfume that I may opt for. It has a very much floral and a fruity base, particularly evident is the smell of oranges and jasmine - and the combination provides a fragrance which is both sweet and zesty. I am not a fan of fragrances which are overwhelmingly floral, and fortunately, although there is a slight floral base to this, I find that the fruity / citrousy smell is what really carries through.
The perfume has average staying power compared to other perfumes of this type. If I put it on then it will need refreshing after about 5 hours. Although the fragrance is still evident after this time, it has faded considerably and as this perfume is quite light anyway, it really does need refreshing after about 5 hours.
I would generally say that this perfume is ideal for summer day wear - or for casual evenings. However, as the fragrance is quite non-descript in as much as I like strong powerful perfumes, then I really don't think I will be spending £47.00 to replace this once I have run out. Oscar de La Renta Volupte Eau de Toilette
by Chii
Volupté Perfume by Oscar De La Renta has been an all time favorite of mine since I discovered it back in 2002.
Increasingly hard to find, Volupté is expensive and romantic and guaranteed to turn heads.
I would recommend it as a signature scent, evening-appropriate with a sophisticated feel, sexy, sensual and feminine. ...
Its amazing opening notes release a hot golden explosion of melon, mandarin, mimosa, carnation, lily of the valley, and jasmine, fading to incense and amber.
I always wear this when I want to feel exotic and mysterious. Once you smell Volupté, you will never forget it.
Now, how does it look on the dressing table?
Well, sadly the cheap looking glass bottle with the green plastic top fails to do justice to the luxury scent inside, which is a shame, as it really is a gorgeous, rich perfume that I would heartily recommend to any grown woman who enjoys compliments and attention! Read the complete review |

Oscar de La Renta Eau de Toilette
by catsholiday
Oscar is the first perfume by Oscar de la Renta and it was created by Jean-Louis Sieuzac in 1977. It was my favourite for many years in the 1980s but recently I have found I prefer a lighter fragrance. It must be my old age or my sense of smell changing. I still wear it but tend to use it at night rather than for day use as I think it is ... a bit rather too strong for a day perfume.
Oscar is a real classic perfume with a strong perfume filled with aromatic notes of lavender, rosemary and carnation, with sweet musky base notes. The top notes include orange blossom, basil, coriander, galbanum, peach and gardenia. The heart of this perfume brings in ylang-ylang, jasmine, tuberose, rose, rosemary, cyclamen, lavender and orchid. My favourites then emerge with opoponax, carnation, patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, lavender and amber.
I particularly love the earthy notes of patchouli, vetiver and sandalwood and amber. I have to admit I have no idea of what opoponax smells like and would be interested to smell this individually some time.
This perfume won the FiFi Award in 1978 and it celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007 and in this celebration year a limited, jubilee version in a beautiful bottle was launched. Unfortunately I only have the normal version in the standard bottle.
The bottle has straight sides and has an oval base with indentations up the side. The lid is a black one that covers the spray nozzle completely and meets a silver band around the bottle. It is quite hard to describe but it is a fairly basic looking bottle not anything very fancy in my view but quite classy and elegant which I think is the image it is trying to create.
Oscar de la Renta is supposed to have taken his inspiration from the exotic white flowers in the garden of his childhood home in Santo Domingo, which is in the Dominican Republic. I find this perfume is very sensual and at the same time feminine and exotic.
The floral smells are quite heavy a bit like jasmine at night rather than a rose in the day. It must be the gardenia and, orange blossom and jasmine that define this floral smell. I really struggle to detect the lavender or rosemary at all but after a while the heavier longer lasting notes of patchouli and vetiver do snuggle through. There are definite sexy and sensual aromas to this perfume and it is feminine and heavily floral. There is no freshness or lightness in this perfume despite the fact that it is floral. I find that it is rather too complex and heavy for me now despite the fact that it is a really classic perfume and has many notes that I usually love. I just find it all a bit too strong for me for daily use.
After some time the initial rather strong floral notes change and develop into a softer and certainly more appealing smell. This fragrance has the most amazing lasting strength I can usually smell this on me the next day after I have worn it at night. When I sniff my clothes that I have worn I can smell Oscar still on then days later if I have not washed them in between. This sweet, elegant floral bouquet aroma and can be overwhelming if you use too much.
Summary;
This is a good quality lasting perfume or EDT with a strong floral aroma with earthy undertones. Oscar is hailed as a classic perfume and is one I do like and I find it much more pleasant the Chanel No 5 for example but I still find it quite powerful for day use so keep it for romantic evenings and special nights out.
Thanks for reading and hope this has been of some interest. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
