Yves Saint Laurent Elle Eau de Parfum
by vickyx_09
I am obsessed with nice smells, from my deodorant to my perfume I just love a strong scent that lasts most of the day.
Once I have my make-up on, my hair done and wearing something nice, the last thing I love to do is squirt myself with a delicious smelling perfume.
When I look for a perfume I absolutely hate how a ... sales assistant will come over and give you several different perfumes sprayed on to that tiny bit of card. Yes it smells amazing on the card but each perfume reacts differently to the individual. A perfume has to warm to your skin and even then, the same perfume can smell like a complete different one on someone else.
A few years ago I was in House of Fraser with my mum and while she was doing her usual (going through ever moisturiser and eye creams) I went to look at the YSL counter. The only thing I had ever had from YSL is the Touché Éclat (which I adore).
I had seen an advert for the new YSL perfume called Elle and really wanted to try it. On the front of the YSL counter they had a display of Elle. A soon as I smelt it I immediately loved it and when the woman on the counter wasn't looking I bathed myself in it. (I am a monkey for doing this).
YSL Description..
A fragrance for an unpredictable and unique woman, in tune with her every desire.
Unpredictable and unusual, Elle is the very essence of Yves Saint Laurent femininity. Elle is the incarnation of a unique and up-to-the-minute chic style. Free to choose, rich in contrasts, strengthened by its contradictions... Elle experiences its passions, all of its passions, fully, without concession. Elle fulfils all of its desires...
YSL Description of Fragrance
A fresh, colourful and infinitely feminine opening of cedar wood gives this fragrance its luminosity. A hint of lychee offers its boldness and peony delicately softens it. Last but not least, pink berries combined in the middle notes with freesia create a fusion of olfactory opposites.
A fragrance bursting with femininity and audaciousness where floral and woody notes blend and mingle together.
Peony - Pink Berries - Patchouli.
After a few minutes of wearing YSL Elle it began to warm to my skin. Now I cannot describe exactly what it smells like as like I've stated every perfume smells different on each person, but on me Elle has a musky floral smell with a hint of spices and ginger.
Whilst wearing this I have has so many compliments on how lovely I smell and since buying my first bottle have gone through 3 more.
Every now and then I give YSL Elle a brake and change to a different perfume but I always end up going back to it and adoring it all over again.
As for the bottle, well it's beautiful.
It comes in a rich purple bottle with a gold bit on the front with YSL in purple engraved on it. It has an expensive elegant look and stands pride of place on my dressing table.
With any perfume I wouldn't recommend you reading this then go out and buy it, but I do suggest next time you're looking for a perfume try YSL Elle. Don't be hasty (as there is nothing worse than buying a new perfume then getting home and realising you don't like it). Don't be shy to ask for a sample, if they haven't got one then give your wrists a spray and leave it to warm on you while you carry on shopping. Only then will you know it is the one for you.
If once you've decided you love it just like me, then you are in for a treat.
The scent lasts all day and you don't need to use a lot, so the bottle lasts for ages.
It's the perfect perfume to use day or night.

Yves Saint Laurent Paris Eau de Toilette
by brittle1906
Review of YSL Paris Eau de Toilette Spray
From the fragrance range from well-known design house of Yves Saint Laurent, Paris is a classic women's scent. Described as a refined, floral fragrance, Paris first hit the fragrance market in 1936.
**The Fragrance**
Paris has a distinctive and sophisticated ... scent. The top notes of mimosa, orange blossom, rose and bergamot, give a fresh and green fragrance. These soon fuse with the warmer heart notes of lily, violet, jasmine, ylang ylang and lily of the valley, which gives the fragrance a warm and feminine feel. The base notes of orris, sandalwood, amber, musk and oakmoss come through and it is these that I consider give the fragrance its staying power. On my skin, anything with sandalwood and amber seem to last longer than other fragrances.
Paris might be a floral fragrance, but in my opinion, it is a 'grown up' scent with hidden notes that alter as you are wearing it. I feel it is suitable for most occasions, however as it is rather expensive, tend to use it on high days and holidays only!
My current bottle of Paris is presented in a rather unusual bottle; it is roughly triangular in shape and does not have a flat base. This means of course that it cannot be stood upright on a dressing table or similar surface. The bottle is made of clear glass, topped with a black plastic spray mechanism which has a salmon pink circular inset on the lid. The outer packaging is a deep pink and black coloured cardboard box; I have retained this for storage purposes and find it protects my fragrance when it is in my fragrance drawer. My bottle of Paris was purchased at an airport duty free shop and I have not seen the same shaped bottle for sale elsewhere so I wonder whether this was a limited edition or made especially for duty free sales outlets.
YSL Paris is a long lasting fragrance, I find that it lasts for several hours and holds its depth well. As with all fragrances, it is best to try out a sample before purchasing as fragrances can differ from person to person. Fragrance of this type (eau de Toilette) has a fairly long shelf life, however once opened it is best to store your fragrances in a cool dark place in order to avoid deterioration.
**Cost and Sizes**
YSL Paris is widely available both on the High Street and online. It ranges in size from 30ml to 125ml and prices on the YSL website start at £33 for the smallest size. It does pay to shop around, a quick web search brought up at better bargain of £30 for the 50ml YSL Paris EDT spray from Boots.
Gift sets are also available from various sources.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
Fragrance is of course a very personal thing. We wear perfumes for different reasons and tastes differ widely. I love this fragrance; I consider it to be a timeless, elegant scent which I would happily wear day in, day out, if I could afford it!
The quality of this fragrance is excellent and it has the long lasting staying power that I look for in a perfume. In my opinion this fragrance would suit most age groups, it is a grown up scent as mentioned earlier, but would I feel, appeal to younger women too. The musky base notes give it a deeper tone than some other floral scents which add to its appeal.
I would recommend YSL Paris to others; I think it is best described as a modern classic scent.
Thank you for reading

Yves Saint Laurent Opium Femme Eau de Toilette
by HayleyBlondiee
In the year of 1977 a perfumer named Jean Amic created an oriental spicy scent for the fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) and named it Opium. The name caused a stir as it was claimed that YSL were condoning drug use, however the controversies only helped to increase the publicizing of Opium and help it to achieve its status as a best ... selling fragrance.
This perfume oozes elegance, class and sophistication. With top notes of fruit and spices with a hint of mandarin, plum, clove, coriander and pepper, as well as a touch of bay leaf. A slight floral mid tones consists of mostly jasmine, rose, lily of the valley, carnation, cinnamon, peach and orris root. A sweet woody base note juxtaposes the sweetness of the flowers with sandalwood, cedarwood, myrrh, opopanax, labdanum, benzoin and castoreum. In addition to amber, incense ad musk. But in plain old English, this fragrance is quite heavy so it lasts for a long time making sure you get your moneys worth! In my opinion I would save this for best and wear it when going out as I think it might be too heavy to wear on a day to day basis and it's a shame to waste it when just getting the shopping!
Encased in a red box with gold leaves peeking from the edges and the name proudly presented in the middle, it really does stand out from the rest on the shelf. Opening it up reveals the bottle and immediately you are hit by the beautiful musky smell inviting you to take a longer look. The bottle itself (depending on which size you purchase) is a raised, almost crackled glass which is transparent allowing you to see when your next trip to the perfume shop will be! The lid is a sultry red just like the box; once you remove it one spray really does go along way.
Opium has a sense of personality that other perfumes don't, it gives you a sense of confidence and also with one inhalation of the strong musky vibes a wave of memories hits you as much as the scent which is truly lovely!
When I smell this scent one word comes to mind - elegance. No wonder my Mum is never without it! Read the complete review |
