I like trying new perfumes whenever I have the chance. I must admit that it's a very risky thing to do especially when the mysterious perfume I'm buying is expensive. I had some very good buys others that were very disappointing. However, I'm always willing to take the risk especially if the perfume has an attractive bottle.
Recently, I had won £100 worth of Amazon vouchers from a survey site which was a very nice surprise. But the problem with buying from Amazon is that the same item can be found at different prices, as it is sold by many sellers in the Amazon Marketplace. Another problem is when I add something to the basket and return a few hours later to buy it, I would find a change in the price; it's a bit like the stock market really!
As I was doing the usual thing I do on amazon, browsing through their perfume section, I came across a new perfume; well it was new for me at least! Prior to this occasion I had never seen nor heard of it. The perfume's name was Agent Provocateur Maitresse Gold Edition Eau De Parfum. The name of the perfume was catchy and having read "Gold Edition" it was even more appealing as I'm automatically attracted to anything gold!
I heard of Agent Provocateur before, but I thought that they only specialised in lingerie and night wear, hence me being surprised that they were actually making perfume . I looked at their perfume range, the limited edition gold one caught my eye in particular so I bought it right away without even sampling it.
Before reviewing the perfume, I would like to introduce Agent Provocateur designer house.
Agent Provocateur is a luxury lingerie line established in the UK in 1994 by Joseph Corre and Serena Rees. They introduced their vision of lingerie where their aim was to create an availability of high quality designer lingerie with creative flair. Designer Agent Provocateur has six perfumes in their perfume range and their signature fragrance by the same name was launched in August 2000. Agent Provocateur fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Christian Provenzano and Azzi Glasser

== The packaging and the Bottle ==
I normally don't like to describe the outer packaging and the bottle a lot but I suppose this perfume deserves to get a full and precise description because it's all about the packaging to be honest.
The outer box is quite big but attractive. The square golden mirror-like box has the name of the perfume written dark red which is bordered by a ribbon golden band. At the bottom there are the usual ingredients while there is nothing on the back.
I opened the box to see red interior with lovely writing from the inside of the box, technically making it a very lovely gift for someone you love.
If you are interested to read what's inside :
Take me firmly
Shake me lovingly
Spray me gently
That was the only the outer box but unlike most perfumes, Agent Provocateur Maitresse Gold Edition Eau De Parfum is different! It has another box; however this box was so beautiful that it gave me an impression that it was a very classy perfume.
It was made of a thick cardboard box wrapped in a shiny mirror-like golden exterior with the name of the perfume on the front of the box. There was a wonderfully shaped flower, a bit like a golden lock really, to secure the box and make it looks even more elegant. When you unlock the box, there is an even more beautiful inner case. This box was all lined with red silk covering the whole box from inside. The bottle was there, sitting nicely on the silky padding.
The bottle is another story; the bottle is a bit heavy for a normal 50ml bottles as it is made out of glass that is all covered in gold painting with a small oval shaped windows which are lightly tinted. This enables you can see the actual colour of the perfume. The shape of the bottle is rather odd actually. It's an egg shaped bottle which is relatively awkward to hold but it does bear that feeling of uniqueness . There is an image of a woman posing on the front and the back of the bottle. Instead of the traditional lid there is a golden ribbon tied around the neck to illustrate its luxury, elegantly securing the bottle so it doesn't leak or spray accidentally.
== The colour and the smell of the perfume ==
As I said before, there was a small window on the bottle showing the colour of the perfume which was a bit cloudy because of the gold particles but when I sprayed it the real colour showed. The perfume was glowing! It contains real gold particles that give you that shimmer on your skin. It was a really nice surprise as I didn't know that it has real gold particles in it until I sprayed it, when I checked the ingredients on the box, my suspicion was true, gold was on the ingredients list.
The perfume is a bit oriental and exotic which has a good combination of interesting notes where each and every one complemented each other. So starting with:
Top notes are brewed with: White lotus, ylang-ylang, violet
Going through Middle notes of: Osmanthus, jasmine, rose
And ending with the base notes of: Iris, amber, white suede.
== My opinion ==
I was so excited to try it; everything about it was encouraging me to try it. Before spraying the perfume on your skin, you need to first give it a gentle shake. This is due to the fact that the gold particles sediment at the bottom due to them being heavier than the perfume. When you shake it, the gold particles will blend with the liquid and will give the skin that lovely shimmering touch.
I loved it from the first sniff! It started off a bit strong. It was very floral at first which is one of my personal favourite categories. The opening note continued into violet and it was delightful. I could smell the violet and a hint of ylang-ylang. The scent was very familiar, it was a lot like Coco channel or Narcisse. but Maitresse was a lot calmer. The white lotus gave it a sense of purity so all in all I must say they all work together in perfect harmony.
30 minutes later the scent completely shifted to the heart note. Maitresse settles into a very fresh and warm scent. It was lovely, with the extreme feminine rose that was lingering beautifully with a touch of jasmine; it seemed to have it all. To conclude the second stage it is a flowery scent in a sensual way!
A few hours later the scent became deeper and muskier. The flowery scent was still there but was slightly recessive and a smoky where a rich base appeared. Much, much later the Maitresse is literally built into a very fresh powdery smell. The flowers have pretty much disappeared and all that remains is clean, aldehyde powder.
I loved how the scent changes from a strong flowery perfume into a deep earthy and smoky one and then settling into fresh and powdery scent. In my opinion, it was a lovely perfume and unlike most flowery perfumes, it wasn't ultra- sweet or sickly, it was soft and powdery with a hint of sweetness. My skin was left smelling gorgeously and sparkled with golden bits.
I always receive nice compliments when I wear this perfume, it's very feminine, seductive and sexy but without being tarty! And it lasted for hours and hours, of course the scent changed over the time and became weaker but was still there as fresh as I first applied it. It is suitable for evening and romantic wear.
We all know that the perfume smells differently on different skins so my mum and sisters tried it and it worked just fine with my sister and mum, although it did smell differently on my mum's skin. It was too heavy on my youngest sister. I must say that Maitresse is a sexy and seductive perfume for elegant and sophisticated women HOWEVER, it's a grown up perfume! It's a perfume for mature people not for teenagers or young women.

== Prices and availability ==
It is widely available over the internet but please note that it's limited edition so it might be a bit hard to find it these days. I bought mine from Amazon.co.uk for £41/50ml and £4.99 for P&P which is a bit expensive but it was an excellent buy. However, I bought my second bottle last week from Amazon again, but this time it was a lot cheaper as I bought it for £23 and paid £3.99 for P&P! So my advice is to search the internet very well for a bargain price before you buy because it's an expensive compared to some other 50ml bottles.
== Summary ==
It is an amazing perfume, pure seduction but in a classy and elegant way, I would recommend it.
I loved it so much that I bought another bottle to give my eldest brother's fiancé and an engagement present so I'm pretty sure that she would like it.
I'm going to give it a full 5 stars, I love, the bottle and packaging, it spell out pure indulgence and lavishness it's a great gift for a sophisticated woman.
