Anna Sui Dolly Girl Eau de Toilette
Advantages: nice enough scent, good staying power for EDT
Disadvantages: availability, not very strong, creepy bottle
Anna Sui Dolly Girl EDT is described as being 'mischievous and flirtacious - precocious and provocative'. This fragrance is recommended for day time or casual use. There are other variations of the original Dolly Girl including 'Lil' Starlet' and 'Bonjour L'Amour'.
*Top notes - melon, apple, cinnamon and bergamot
*Heart notes - violet, jasmine, lily of the valley, magnolia and rose
*Base notes - wild strawberry, amber, vetiver, raspberry, teakwood essence and musk
The design of the Dolly Girl bottle is said to replicate Anna Sui's favourite mannequin head. It is made of pink, slightly frosted glass and shaped like a head and neck. The design is completed with fluttery eyelashes, rosy cheeks and pink, puckered lips. I personally find the design to look quite creepy!

I received my bottle of Dolly Girl last year. I recognised the bottle right away as being Anna Sui but have never been tempted to try the actual fragrance as I feared it may be cheap and nasty. I am glad I received it as a gift though as I now quite like it! It is worth shopping around if you want to buy it as it isn't widely available. I have the matching body lotion too which is even harder to find than the EDT! The bottle has to be kept in a box though as it creeps me out!
Right from the first spray I could tell that Dolly Girl wasn't going to be a heavy fragrance. This is to be expected given that it is an EDT rather than a heavier EDP. That being said, the fragrance notes come through at different levels of strength during this fragrances life span on my skin. I find a few sprays to my neck area and on to my wrists is more than sufficient for my skin to grasp a pleasant level of strength from this fragrance.
The opening scent offered by Dolly Girl is highly appealing to me! It is fruity, refreshing and almost quite Summery - a light but fragrant and juice cocktail. The apple and bergamot are the most evident notes and this combination smells entirely natural and fresh. After a short while, the freshness of the scent is overtaken my a sweet and warming cinnamon note which in my opinion, adds a unique touch to this scent.
The fruity, sweet and warming combination is absolutely gorgeous and the different notes really work well together. The cinnamon enhances the strength of Dolly Girl despite acting as a subtle undertone but the overall scent holds on to its Summery freshness quite well. After an hour or so, the floral heart notes start to emerge and mingle with the fruity top notes. I wouldn't say there is anything particularly special about the floral notes that Anna Sui chose to use here but they are soft and quite subtle. Those who favour floral scents may be disappointed by how little they come through but I was happy to have them lingering in the background whilst the top notes remain more noticeable.
The dry down of Dolly Girl occurs after 4 hours or so of wear and is quite pleasant indeed. There is quite a lot going on here but it definitely works and I able to witness a nice blend of fragrance notes as they filter through. There is a bit of sweetness from the fruity notes, a warm, woody aroma and a very fine musky undertone given it a slightly more grown up feel compared to the bright and refreshing opening sequence. I notice this fragrance coming to an end on my skin after 5 hours or so.
I would say Dolly Girl is more aimed at a younger audience but could easy be worn by any female who appreciates a bright but fairly subtle fragrance. I find that this fragrance is light enough to wear on a warm Summers day through to evening. Wearing the body lotion as a base increases the strength and staying power of the scent for an hour or two longer.
Whilst not the most impressive of fragrances, I have been very impressed by how beautiful Dolly Girl comes through on my skin. It is pleasant to wear and the notes have been well chosen to come across as being a beautifully fresh and feminine fragrance that would appeal to many in my opinion. It can be bought for under £15.00 often on eBay which I feel is a fair price for an EDT.
Thanks for reading :)
