“ Brand: Anna Sui / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Parfum „
When I was a teenager, Anna Sui fragrances were really popular but for one reason or another I never got around to trying any of them. Just after Christmas, however, I found a set of 5 miniatures being sold in Debenhams for under £20 and decided to buy it and give some of the fragrances a try. This review will discuss my experience with the Forbidden Affair fragrance.
As with most Anna Sui fragrances, the bottle is really unusual and pretty. It is a clear bottle with an oval shape with patterned edges, a bit like a mirror with a 'crown' on the top. The purple box suggests that the 'mirror' shape is actually an ornate gate, where two lovers are meeting - their silhouettes also appear on the bottle. They have a fairy-like appearance adding to the fairytale image of the perfume. Silver roses grow around the black gate on the box.
The description for this perfume suggests that "Dabbing a little Forbidden Affair fragrance behind each ear is like putting on a tiara. Enter through the gates to the Forbidden Affair garden and find your Prince Charming!" The fragrance has top notes of lemon, blackcurrant and redcurrant, middle notes of raspberry, rose petals and pomegranate, and base notes of violet, musk and cedar.
The appearance of the bottle suggested to me that this would be a fairly heavy, evening fragrance. However this wasn't the case at all. It is incredibly fruity and whereas most fruity perfumes, in my experience, smell of citrus fruits, this one smelled of summer fruits. Although it does contain lemon, the top notes also include blackcurrant and redcurrant and the middle notes include raspberry. I really liked this as I love summer fruits. There is a very 'English' aspect to the scent because of this - it made me think of an English fairytale.
I couldn't really detect the base notes much as once again this fragrance didn't last a long time on my skin. Around three to four hours was all it lasted, which is a shame as it's really nice.
***Price and Availability***
The fragrance costs £22-£25 for 50ml which is good value and normal for most Anna Sui fragrances. It is not widely available, however, though it can be purchased from a few Internet retailers.
I really liked this perfume and it is one of my favourite Anna Sui fragrances. The summer fruit scent is unusual and lovely. It doesn't last very long on the skin, but then again it is much cheaper than some other fragrances out there.
I think a lot of Anna Sui fragrances are designed for teenagers and younger women. This one could easily be worn by a younger person, and the fairy tale image would appeal to this age group, but it could be worn by older people too. This is one fragrance that I would consider purchasing at full size.
