Advantages: Sweet, beautiful fragrance and very pretty bottle
Disadvantages: Some people do not like sweet perfumes
Sui Dreams is a sweet, lingering perfume which wafts and flows around wherever you go. It lasts for a few hours on the skin and smells absolutely beautiful.
The first time I got this perfume was Christmas 2006. I was mesmerised by the beautiful little carved glass handbag with this vivid blue liquid inside, it really is a wonder to look at. When I sprayed it I was instantly in love! I like sweet perfumes and this one is certainly sweet, powdery and uplifting.
~~~ Initial Impressions ~~~
As I have said, on fist sight I was enchanted by the beautifully crafted perfume bottle. On smelling the perfume I was immediately reminded of sweeties and childhood innocence. It smells very sweet and powdery. I am not sure if the word powdery makes sense to you, but, there's something akin to the scent of baby powder, but it doesn't actually smell like baby powder.
When spraying for the first time, chances are you will be checking to see how blue it actually is when it goes on to your skin. It does actually look a little bit on the blue side but does not stain your clothes or skin...the colour seems to disappear.
~~~ Fragrance ~~~
Sui Dreams can be described as sweet, warming and floral. It's quite a sensual fragrance with notes of vanilla and peach. It's definitely a bright and fresh fragrance which manages to be comforting and uplifting at the same time.
Top Notes (The sharpest, more instant scents in the mix which disperse the fastest): Nectarine, Mandarin, Orange, Bergamot
Heart Notes (The middle, warming scents, not too sharp, not too musky, they give the perfume some of its ability to last a long time): Freesia, peach, peony and rose
Base Notes (The deepest, muskiest scents which take longer to come through in the fragrance but allow it to last a long time): Nutmeg, sandalwood, musk, vanilla and anise.
I would say that of the top notes, Nectarine is the strongest, of the heart, probably a mixture of peach and peony and of the base notes definitely vanilla and perhaps musk. It's quite a complex fragrance, but as you can see, the main scents are all sweet and fruity and floral. Although the perfume does contain some quite big base scents, it is not a heavy fragrance, it is light and girly and carefree.
~~~ Price and Availability ~~~
Sui Dreams is available in most places where perfume is sold. It is always available in Boots and specialised perfume shops as well as Frasers and Debenhams. It's also usually available in places like Semi Chem, Superdrug and Body Care. There are often great offers where you buy Sui Dreams eau de toilette and you receive a shower gel or moisturiser along with it. This is wonderful; grab the opportunity if it is available as it is great for layering the scent!
A 30ml bottle of the eau de toilette is usually around £25; however, prices vary quite considerably depending on the shop/website and also the time of year. There are often offers on and it's certainly good value for money.
~~~ Conclusion ~~~
This is one of my absolute favourite perfumes. It is affordable and smells expensive. The little handbag shaped bottle is quirky and modern and fits nicely into a bag as it's quite broad but flat (about 7cm by 10cm by 2.5cm). It's also excellent value as, although it is an eau de toilette (which usually do not last as long as eau de parfum) it is made with oils rather than water and alcohol, which means that it actually lasts just as long.
There is actually a lot of sentimentality attached to this perfume for me. Fragrances have an amazing power to transport us through time and space. This particular fragrance takes me back to that happy Christmas day with relatives and my uncle who is no longer with us. It also takes me back to working in a bookshop, surrounded by books and having a good laugh with my colleagues, not an idyllic memory, just a happy, carefree one, which is certainly what this perfume represents to me - happy, carefree days and nights out.
It's a soft, warm, sweet, happy, joyful fragrance. I recommend that you try it - it smells wonderful!
