Advantages: None for me
Disadvantages: Smells like toilet cleaner on me
This is the first fragrance I ever tried in the Annick Goutal fragrance range.
This was a perfume company I had never heard of, but read about it in the press in the 1990's. It is still quite a niche brand and only some stores stock it.
The range was first launched in 1981 by its namesake and this was one of the first fragrances they made and at one time was one of the most popular in the range.
I visited the Allders the department store every day to try the different perfumes in the range and eventually narrowed it down to Eau de Sud and Eau de Hadrien.
The assistant who obviously thought I was just coming in to get free perfume every day recommended Eau de Hadrien as it was their bestseller.
She also gave me some quite large samples one of which was Eau de Sud which I discovered I much preferred to Eau de Hadrien.
Annick Goutal make an extensive range of perfumes , all of which come in a beautiful bottle that is a signature of their range. The eau de toilette comes in a ridged clear glass bottle with a gold top , label and a matching ribbon tied in a bow.
This particular fragrance very obviously contains lemons and as I love the smell of lemons this is why I purchased it.
It is light and fresh but for me does not have a lot of depth and although I like it on first application, it develops and starts to smell like pine mixed with lemon. Luckily for me this was not a long lasting fragrance.
One of the ingredients is cypresse which explains the pine notes and it also contains ylang ylang.
I do think this particular blend just did not work on my skin as I gave this to a friend and it smelt wonderful on her. I obviously made a very expensive mistake and should have chosen Eau de Sud which I love ( also reviewed).
I think this is a definite daytime scent and also one I would use mostly in Summer . It is clean and fresh and the first spray you get the lemon with a hint of the other fruits and lastly on me the pine comes through and presumably the ylang ylang which I must admit I don't know what this smells like on its own.
I think this could be worn by men as it isn't particularly feminine.
As you will gather I don't like this particular scent , but the body cream that comes with this is really beautiful. I have only used the sample size in this fragrance, but have purchased a full size in the Eau De Sud.
What I love about the lotion is that it really has a lovely creamy consistency which moisturises your skin really well and in addition it has a really long lasting scent which when layered with the EDT really does make the fragrance last much longer. I obviously would not recommend layering this if it makes you smell like Flash lemon pine cleaner.
But if it doesn't I found that this is exactly the same scent as the EDT and I have used the body cream on its own and the scent lasts well. So unlike some other perfume houses the body cream smells the same and has the same intensity as the EDT , also the base cream is hydrating and not a thin watery one where they have simply slapped a bit of scent in a cheap base.
This comes in a cream tube with gold lettering and is very easy to dispense. The consistency is quite thick and it feels like a luxury product.
As with any fragrance particularly one so expensive , try to track this down before you invest and try it a few times just in case it develops into a pine air freshener smell on you .
Also when I tried this I obviously mixed this up with Eau de Sud as they do both contain lemon so don't make the same mistake I did.
Would I Recommend
No , this doesn't last very long and although lovely on first application, it starts to smell like a lemon/pine air freshener , which I quite like , but don't particularly want to walk around smelling like my toilet cleaner. The body cream is lovely and luxurious , just not in this range
Prices vary and it is much cheaper to buy on line Feel Unique have a 100ml EDT at £67.50
John Lewis sell a EDT 50ml at £51 and 100ml at £73.
The body lotion retails at £34.20 for 150ml.
Feel Unique have the set with a 50ml EDT and 100ml body cream for £36.00 which is really good value.
