      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      divinely summery

This perfume is so divinely summery that I can never bring myself to stop using it in the winters. Maybe I'm trying to convince myself that I won't turn into an icicle if I step out the door. Annick Goutal Eau du Sud bottles summer up just right. Bergamot, mandarin orange, grapefruit, lemon verbena, peppermint, basil, persian lime, and woods mixed together leaves me dreaming of Spanish beaches. Bliss. This initial tones of this perfume hits your nostrils with a wave of citrus freshness by hitting on the orange, grapefruit and lemons. But don't worry you will not feel like you are standing in the middle of an orangery the slight undertones of herbs such as basil softens the smell up and rounds the edges of just right. When the woody smells kick in it is a whole other experience. The smoky smell that is added makes this eau du parfum simply to die for. However if you are more used to a lighter fragrance that is not as masculine this may not be your first option as it is a unisex perfume. Oh yes! I said unisex, do not be let the his and her bottles pull a wool over your eyes!

      Fresh fruity clean fragrance

I was introduced to Annick Goutal by the late Paula Yates . For those that don't know of her she was famous in her own right as a presenter of the Tube , married to Bob Geldoff who she dumped for Michael Hutchence (INXS) and mother of Peaches Geldoff.

Of course I didn't know Paula personally , but I remember reading that she used this perfume brand and being younger and more impressionable I tracked it down , blagged a sample , and later bought it duty free as this was and still is quite expensive to buy.

Annick Goutal make an extensive range of perfumes , all of which come in an absolutely top notch bottle that is a signature of their range. The eau de toilette comes in a ridged clear glass bottle with a gold top , label and a matching ribbon tied in a bow. It is a thing of beauty and I love this bottle, it looks expensive in an understated way.

This is a French company that launched in 1981 by its namesake and the company developed a word of mouth reputation and grew as the brand became popular with celebrities and journalists in the 1980's.

This particular scent was launched in 1997 and also has a matching body lotion which is also gorgeous.

The fragrance is very distinctive and you can really tell without checking that one of the ingredients is lemon mixed together with lime yet with a lovely musky woody undertone.
I love the freshness of this and definetely feel that this is a daytime summer fragrance , meant to be worn on hot summer days.
Something you would spray to cool you down and perk you up so a bottle will last you ages as we don't have many days like that in England. I bought this on holiday in Sorrento and it every time I spray it brings back memories of that holiday.

It has a clean fruity smell that is lively on first application and then settles down and becomes more restrained. It is very long lasting and one that I can still smell at the end of the day. Quite strong and overpowering at first, so beware don't go overboard when you spray it.

You have to like the smell of lemons and other citrus fruits to wear this , if you don't then stay away.

The actual ingredients are Lemon , lime mandarin , grapefruit , verbena, mint and basil and then they say it contains a hint of patchouli , jasmine and vetiver which gives it the woody undertone.

I think this is feminine but it also reminds me of a mans aftershave and I think a man could get away with this. In fact they make this for men as well which I discovered while researching the current price.

As with any fragrance particularly one so expensive , try to track this down before you invest as it may not be to your taste. I was lucky enough to get samples so I was able to wear this a few times before I decided on this particular one in the range.

      Would I Recommend
Yes if you love fresh citrussy woody fragrances. It is very distinctive and not one you will find many people wearing. It is a quality EDT that is long lasting fresh and uplifting . Perfect for day and I associate this with summer holidays.
I think it may be like marmite some people love it , but someone once asked me what air freshener I had sprayed ( a man) but if I love a scent I don't really care what people think unless it is my husband.

The full 5 stars from me

A quality EDT that is a little different from the norm .

Prices vary and it is much cheaper to buy on line Amazon have a 100ml at £61.28.
      John Lewis sell a 50ml at £51 and 100ml at £73.
